Went to the new endocrinologist this morning. He did an ultrasound, and said that I have two issues. Hyperthyroidism caused by GravesGraves disease disease, although I'm not convinced it caused by GravesGraves disease since my TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh count is low, but T3, T4T4 test and antibodies all come back normalNormal saline flush. I also have what appears as tumor on the upper left side of my thyroid. He gave me the two options
1. Start taking meds for the Graves, and have the tumor biopsied in two weeks and take it from there or
2. Go for surgery to have the tumor removed and then start on meds for the rest of my life.
I'm really not sure what to do, the tumor is of medium size, but I don't have the actual size
Michelle, could you ask the doctor for copy of the ultrasound report?
About 85 to 90% of patients diagnosed with Grave's have elevated TSI antibodies.
Increased vascularity of the thyroid and fairly uniform RAI uptake of 30% or higher is present. The local areas of increased uptake are not usually present [no hot nodules, all gland is hot, except the cold nodule in your case]
The tumor should have biopsy first, if it happen to be a cyst, it can be aspirated and/or treated with PEI.
So my advice :
get the copy of ultrasound report to see if there are some additional details;
if doctor would show hostility get the second opinion.

I guess now I wait for the results and figure out what to do from there.
