throid and stress

i have been batteling problems for 11 years now, my family dr. put me on meds for hasimoto's and then i had a really bad reaction.....by face turned bright red, got really hot, and really upset to my stomach. They thought it was allergys to the red dye in the meds. Then i went to see a specialist and he told me that the meds where to strong and now they are telling me to have my throid removed and then meds will do job. I also suffer from stress and anxiety and my periods are very very heavy, can not sleep well, wake up with the shakes, i am cold all the time!! I get headaches alot and sometimes just think that i am going crazy. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I also have the same problem, mine started 10 years ago when I was diag. with hypo. I stopped my periods at 41 yrs. old.  The dr. put me on synthroid 75mcg.1/d. but my anxiety level was always up.  4 months ago I really, to put it mildelyFLIPPED. Every physical symptom ,heart, stomach, head you name it it was there. the dr drew my tsh and i had converted to hyper. Why? he couldnt tell me, I couldnt tell him. now he has dropped my med. to 50mcg. He said its gonna take awhile to get me down to normal, but the anxiety is horrible.

I just checked my notes and I stand corrected on the red Color additive(s).

What dose were you on when this happened. I looked up Synthroid (don't know what brand you take) and there IS red dye in the 75,112,175 and 200mcg doses.

Do you have bloodwork from before and after this dose?

Hope you are doing better.

What meds. were you on and your levels.  I don't know any of the T-4  meds with red dyes in them.
The dyes that are in T-4 are so minor (they are pale pastels) they shouldn't cause problem.
I also have reactions to dyes and coloring, but found no problems with the T-4 supplements.

Perhaps you should seek a second opinion, especially before making a decision for an evasive treatment as surgery.  Besides taking out the thyroid will not change the fact of your allergic reaction to red dyes.

Happy Holidays  -
