Just want my life back

I have been diagnosed with GN since May of 2007, I think this is the worst pain anyone could go thru. My question to you is,I also have Multiple sclerosis, diagnosed in 1999 I've been told that I'm not a candidate for MVD due to the failure rate in ms patients, do you know if this is true? I did have  thermal rizotomy in Oct of 07 only to have it fail with-in a week.(missed diagnosed for trigeminal neuralgia) I no longer work or drive due to constant pain. Just want my life back. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Nelson

Hi,

I too have been diagnosed with GN. It was found June 2006. I was on Gabapentin for a year with break through pain and the ENT that diagnosed me then referred me to a neurosurgeon. They wanted to do the micro vascular decompression right away but I wasn't ready so I opted to up the medication. Unfortunately the medication only worked for a while and I had breakthrough pain again. Towards the end of the second year, they added carbamazepine and the combination of the two drugs made me sick. That is when I decided to have the surgery. The surgery was preformed in June 2008 and so far I have not had any reoccurring pain. I am not on any medication at the present time.

I do not know if having MS has anything to do with the surgery itself. I also don't know where you are located but if you can do a search on Dr. Peter Jannetta at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, maybe you can find out answers to your questions.

The pain of GN is terrible and I know what you deal with. If you would like to talk, sometimes just talking to someone that knows what you are dealing with helps, you may contact me at elantra2006.

Good luck with your situation and remember there are people that do truly understand!

Nelson, a quick ans, ask your Doctor if you can be prescribed   "Tegretol" my partner tried it for EP seizures, unfortunately her skin reacted, but during the first weeks of trial it reduced and stopped her Neuralgia.?
