Confused by Ovulation Tracking

I'm new to taking temperatures and tracking my cycles. I'm hoping it will help me figure out when I ovulate since I cramp almost the whole month except when I have my period! I have been on the pill for many years but when I do stop I don't seem to get regular cycles or they are very long ie.38-49 days. I've looked at other tracking charts but still don't understand when you know you are ovulating. Can anyone help explain this to me?

Hi. 37, fresh off Mirena a month & TTC 1st baby. Ok, I get a bit confused with the "egg white" thing. I'm in need of clarity please. So, that means no color, clear yet sticky like the whites of a raw chicken egg when isolating the yolk, right?

So when the cm's like (don't mean to be gross) the stuff you get when blowing your nose in kleenex when you're sick you're going to ovulate soon & then when it starts to clear up like the egg whites it's ideal time for "baby making", Is that right? Thanks.

For me.....I get it for a few days, up to a week sometimes! I haven't totally pinpointed everything since having my son. I haven't had too many cycles since then to see too much of my trend just yet. But I know before I would notice that I would all of a sudden dry up so I figured I ovulated the day or couple days before.
When you get the egg white cm, that's when you are most fertile. Remember that you don't have to have sex the exact day of ovulation to get pregnant! Sperm will stick around for a couple days (5 max) so you have a great window! The egg white cm is a sure sign that it's time to get busy, no matter what your temps say!

Thanks for responding:) I actually do monitor my cervical fluid. I do  it  internally which I  find  is  more accurate. The problem is it has been egg white, supposedly right before you ovulate for 4 or 5 days now, and my temps have been at the lowest which I think means you are going to ovulate too. How long do you usually get the fertile cervical fluid before you ovulate?

I can't give you advice on the temp thing because it was too much work for me but something that helps me is tracking my cervical mucous! Have you tried that? It's very telling in when you are fertile during your cycle!
