IVF?

Hi all, need advice. I'm on my second round of clomid-I do understand this is not the clomid users forum. I'm not as excited this go round as the last time so I'm really thinking about IVF. Any advice? Costs, health concerns, luck, and/or should it even be an option? We've been trying for quite some time now-TTC almost 5 yrs. I'll be 35 next year and although I'm well aware that women of all ages can get pregnant, I still understand that it does get more difficult for women even over 30. I'm trying not to feel discouraged but this is my last resort for trying.

Hi Angebelle I have my docs appt on Thursday so I'll be sure to mention things you've shared-thanks! This is my last (personally willing) month trying-last two were with clomid. This time, old fashioned. I'm honestly going to be that candid with my doc this week...it's been a few years. We weren't rushed the last few years although we didn't try to prevent pregnancy either. With careers and continuing edu, I really wasn't pushing it but now I know we've been trying for some time now with no contraceptive the entire time we've been married. Sperm count good, my tubes are good and clomid used-hate clomid personally. But I'll be sure to mention what you've suggested above. Thanks again!!!

Hi Salorja! I know you posted quite a while ago, but was curious about your decision.  My DH and I tried progressively on our own for three years before visiting an RE in our fourth year. (Mind you our regular doctors/obgyn gave us the green light that we should have no probs conceiving.)  During the course of nine months with the RE, after a multitude of fertility tests, we did four rounds of iui.  The first three were enhanced with clomid oral pills and progesterone vaginal pills.  The fourth round of iui was enhanced with various at-home injectible hormones (the same used for ivf) and it was successful (i'm now full term).

My advice is to exhaust all the other options before jumping to ivf.  The reason we continued with iui was mainly costs.  Unfortunately, we learned our insurance didn't pay for ivf and the costs would have set us back another year while we saved up.  The drugs alone can cost $2000 without prescription benefits.  I wasn't concerned w/ the procedure itself, since it was in office/outpatient and short recovery time.  I was otherwise healthy and knew my chances of success would be positive within the first two rounds. I'm not sure where you are in GA, but I could recommend a couple of REs in ATL if you wanted.  Just send me a message.
