life after mirena

ok, so ive tried looking up on the net everywhere, but as usual, all i can find are the horror stories associated with the mirena. well, i happen to be one of the lucky ones, i guess... had it for 4 years, no side effects except i did not have my period while using it. well, as any mom (or mom in waiting knows) when you get "baby fever" there is no cure, except having a baby. so i had my mirena removed two weeks ago, and have yet to bleed, anything. nada. nothing. so frustrating to wait for something you used to dread getting ;) so i wondered if im alone waiting this long to get my first period. most of what i read was within the first 3-5 days. so, i guess thats my question, for those of you who did not get their period on the mirena, then had it removed to conceive again, when did your period return? also what is your age and # of children so i can compare with that too thanks!!!!

I had the Mirena in for about a year and half and had it taken out September 9th.  I also never had a period while on the mirena but started having alot of very painful cysts.  We decided to take it bc we wanted to try and have a baby before my hubby goes back on sea duty (navy), but I'm super bummed b/c I still haven't gotten a period or had any signs of bleeding.  We have been ttc and I have all the symptoms of being pregnant but I know it can't be.  I just hope AF visits soon!  I feel like I'm going to go crazy =(

Hi, 37, never had a baby come out of me but raising 2 stepkids & my nephew. Had Mirena for 3-4 years before removed 8/3/11 to TTC. During Mirena only needed pantyliner just-in-case b/c I only saw a period around the same time every month when I wiped. Until this last year, prior to taking out Mirena, I'd have 1-2 light period days each month. Day Mirena was removed had to use a liner then a light pad then back to a liner everyday for 2 weeks. Doctor said that I had green light to start trying, but failed to tell me about ovulation & all that jazz. "You should be able to try right away", he said. So we tried. I bled heavy for a week then nothing until 9/16/11. We had tried again a week prior & I began light to progressively awful cramps for a week, then spotting, then heavy period yesterday. I tried the OPK & it should've told me I was ripe 2 weeks ago but it didn't & we missed the egg. Hopefully we'll catch this next one.

Life continues in my new role as an Egg Detective w/all the OPKs, PTs, temp taking, cervical mucous, egg white, yatayata. I wonder if I could've saved myself the trouble of Mirena & had sex on my non-ovulating days, LOL!

I think the problem with the Mirena, like most things in life, is that those who have something to complain about are the "loudest". I had mine for almost 3 years but unlike you, had light spotting on a regular pattern (small periods, I guess, lasting a day or two) starting maybe a year ago. At the time of removal, I was having one of these "light periods" and had my first real one about 6 weeks later. My cycle has often been 5 weeks long (and has returned to it), so there was a slight delay, but not much. A friend of mine had hers out last year and I'm not sure about how long she waited, but was pregnant maybe 3 months later, if that. I mention her since she had told me when I asked her about it that she had no periods. She had hers a comparable time to me.
