hives are very bad..

I have had hives now for a week and had them two weeks before.  The last time they gave me a shot of steroids and they were gone the next day.  But can't have steroids but once a month. Really would rather not.

I have them mostly on my upper body and small and large patches everywhere .   They not only itch like crazy but cause pain and burning.  I can hardly stand it.   And none of the antihistamines work, no lotions work and the BABY OIL didnt work either.

I know they can also be caused by an infection in your body  and I do have a respiratory infection that is being treated also.

I keep feeling as if I can't make it one more day...its that bad.  And i am seeing a Dr...

If anyone else has anything to share, please do !

hugs, meg

Thank you, from what I have read even if you do all the testing, it is very difficult or near impossible to find an answer.  I did get a cream today traimcinclone and it has not really helped.

I try not to scratch most of the time but then when i just can't stand it I just go at it and scratch until it hurts.

I will keep you posted..

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Urticaria or hives is usually triggered by allergens, such as drugs, foods, insect bites, inhaled substances, in response to sunlight, cold, heat, stress, exercise, or a viral infection. Other common allergens are pollen, mold, dust, pet dander, or cosmetics. Since you experienced an itch, just go over these possibilities in your mind. Something may strike you. In many cases, hives clear up themselves and don’t require diagnosis or treatment. However if they persists you may need to see a specialist called an allergist to determine what is causing the reaction. You must get an allergy test done, either a skin test or RAST, to know what you are allergic to. Fungal infections like tinea corporis and tinea cruris too cause whole body itching. Liver problems too can cause generalized itching and the scratching can cause wheals to form. Hence it is important to get a liver function test.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Yes, that could be an option but my dermotoligist and primary confirms hives.  It started on my butt, now it is on my back and and on my left eyelid...fun !  I didnt realize hives hurt so bad and even painful.

The dermo. prescribed steroid cream, I hope it helps....nothing else has.
