Deep breath causing pain in back, around ribs, and sternum

Okay, so about two days ago I woke up and my back was hurting a lot. It got much worse when I would take a very deep breathe or when I would suck my stomach in. It hurts in my back, around my ribs, and my sternum area. It also hurts when I twist in certain positions or lay in certain positions. I haven’t found any spots that are painful to the touch. I was thinking maybe I slept in an awkward position, but I am concerned. It’s been two days and I can still feel the pain. I’ll go to the doctor soon, but I was just curios if anyone else has had this issue. I’m a 20 year old male by the way.

Thanks

Hello~I am sorry you are experiencing this pain.

I am thinking it possibly could be a very tight psoas (pronounced so-az_muscle. I would see a chiropractor, they actually specialize in issues such as yours. They will take some x-rays and do some other tests, then decide what type of adjustments are best for your problem. After a few treatments you should start to feel better.

In the meantime, there are some good stretches for this muscle, just google "Psoas muscle stretches".

I hope you feel better soon.
