Child with stomach pain

My 10 year old daughter has been suffering from abdominal pain (right side) for almost 3 weeks. Have seen 4 doctors and been given 4 different diagnosis! The latest was a consultant paediatrician who said he thought it was swollen glands because the glands in her neck were slightly swollen and she had a cold a week before the pain started. The pain is not getting any better (in fact it's been worse for the last 3 days) and it is constant. Does anyone know how long we can expect this to go on for? and is it really swollen glands or something more sinister. Thank you

Did your daughter have any other symptoms besides the pain. They don't think it's appenticitise because she is eating well, her temp is normal as is her pulse and blood pressure. She's still in pain and we've been to A & E (accident and emergency which is the same as your ER) twice. They haven't offered a scan or bloods. I don't know where to turn to now, I'm really distraught and frustrated. No pain killers make any difference.

I just had the same problem with my 10 year old daughter 5 days ago,and I demanded a blood count and CT scan.  It showed an acute appendicitis. Another child was in the ER at the same time with a burst appendix because many days prior to that the same ER sent him home!  Please ask for blood test and CT scan.

PS,
If it was an appenicitis, you would know by now, that pain doesn't come on slowly and she would never tolerate it regularly.

Sorry to disagree about apentdictis but my sister had it for almost one month before she was dignosed with appenditiscs.  When she was rshed to the hopsital she was put on the most extreme antibotics because of a severe infection from the apendix being infected.  it took to many doctors and an emergency visit to diagnois her.  Nothing should be ruled out till all testing is done.

I'm in the UK I think they do things differently here (slowly!!, unfortunately). The doctors have all just asked about the symptoms and then felt around her stomach. We're seeing a doc today so here's hoping we can actually get some kind of test and/or answer.  I haven't forced the issue of the blood tests because she's quite scared but I think I will need to mention it. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Sounds like a pain, and don't think just cause you are in the UK that they always do things slower. Maybe, yes, I have heard that. But in small towns in the us, they are slow too, the learners you know. Anyway, it is up to you, don't forget that, to figure out what is going on. You are no doc, but if you google the web for symptoms, you are obund to get an answer.
Has she had her period yet? I only ask, because endometriosis can cause the pain you speak of in young girls. I am 39 and was just diiagnosed, but "they say" girls can get this at your girls age.
The most important thing is that you have to realize that it is your responsibility and privilage to get tons of info on the web. Go there first so you can ask the doctors the right questions. My guess is that the 10 yr old would love to "surf" anyway, maybe you can tell her to go to webmd.com and do a symptom check and so on with you. She probably needs your guidance with that, but you are the parent. :)

You've gone to four doctors and no one has even taken the first step of running a blood test????

Bless your heart.  What were they doing during the exam?   Although you been to the doctors a lot,  it doesn't seem you've even scratched the surface of trying to diagnose her.

Thanks for all your comments.  She's definately not constipated, they haven't done any bloods or xrays and they haven't tested for strep. Appendicitis was suggested at the beginning but they seem fairly sure it's not that now.  Will take her to the doctor this week and I am going to take her to a homoeopath also.

Was appenditcitis ruled out.  have they done blood work to check to see if her WBC is elevated.  If she did not have any exrays using barium done go make sure she gets tested epxecially if it is worse.  It could be appenditcis and been overlooked.
