Terrible persistent pain following a steroid injection

I have been having injection pain from an injection 5 months ago.  I don’t remember the injection being any more painful than previous injections, but starting either that day, or shortly after, I’ve been having a sharp, terrible pain in my left glute.  It only hurts when I move certain ways, and has not gotten any better, or worse, since it first happened, until today, where the pain is almost unbearable.

Normally, it hurts the most in the morning, and can be lessened with exercise and stretching.  When I first start exercising, and/or stretching, the pain is almost unbearable, but feels a lot better by the end of it.  Thinking it was nerve damage, I had an EMG, and the doctor concluded there was no nerve damage.

If it’s not a nerve, then I really don’t know what it could possibly be, and why it hasn’t started to get better on its own.  What else could possibly be going on?
