Chronic post op infection since july

I had some adhesions removed on july 28th.internal stitches were used,i had a reaction to them, and came down with an infection. Dr treated it with antibiotics until i went back under the knife on oct 3rd to clean it out. This dr said he was 99% sure the infection was taken care of(baseball size mass of infected tissue was removed, due to 2 stitches),and the draining of the wound should stop by the end in 3 weeks. Well, it's now the middle of november and it's still draining, and the kicker is,i called my surgeon yesterday, and they said, well we probably should see you,but he's booked today and tomorrow, and then he is on vacation,so i dont go in until november 27th. I am really starting to lose my patience, i have been having to deal with this bull for 5 months and i'm tired of it. I am afraid it is spreading,i am now having terrible cramping, and i have no reproductive organs left. I do NOT have a fever, almost never get one. The sign i know something is wrong is i get terrible headaches. Do i demand to be seen by someone at the clinic.or do i go somewhere else completely.

Yep!  That was me....I said immflamed nodule pressing on a nerve.  I was thinking that maybe you should go ahead with the antibiotics because the infection could have settled in that nodule.  I was right the first time, so maybe I will be again.  Seriously though, that is a high possibility...it's worth a shot.

Well, my cholesterol(sp)was high, my triglycerides(sp)were high, and my WBC was high.  That was all.  Everything else checked out fine.  The WBC was only slightly elevated.  She said she would call me in an antibiotic if I wanted her to, but I told her I would wait a couple of days and see if my body could fight it off on it's on and if not, I'd call her.  I mean, my ear was clear Friday.  She said I was weezing some and I have got a cough so I guess that could be it, other than that, we don't even know where the infection is.  So, now I'm waiting again for her to get the records from the other doc so she can see the CT scan and compare her blood work to their blood work and see if there has been any change.  So, back to waiting.  I have been hurting VERY bad tonight.  It's cold AND raining.  I think I am going to ask about some arthritus med just to try and see if that may be it.  Worth a shot isn't it?  She also said Friday that it could be inflamation making the knot and the knot could be pressing on a nerve.  Weren't you the one that suggested almost the same thing?  What can be done for that?

Well, did you have any luck?  Get in to see anybody else any sooner?  Or at least they could let you come in and let the nurse take a look see, give you an antibiotic shot, & a prescription for one by mouth.  Then if it is still not any better you already have an appointment to see him when he gets back from vacation.  Keep after them.  If they don't cooperate, just take matters in your own hands and make an appointment with someone else own your own.  Let me know how it goes.  Been wondering what you found out all day.  Take care of yourself.

I thought I'd put my two cents in!  I can't believe that they'd make you wait all that time!  Surely he can't expect you to go on with a problem like that.  Is there anyone else that he can refer you to?????  I mean someone has to take his patients while he's away.  This is insane and no wonder you feel so bad and not to mention verrrry dangerous!!!!!!!  Stuff like this makes my blood boil.  I know I'm not helping at all, but I'm on your side and I can b--tch and complain with you.

Gracious!  I just realized exactly how long it is until the 27th.  That's like 2 wks.  Geeze what ever happened to taking care of their patients?  I mean, as long as we pay our bills, they do work for us, right?

Hey, PB&J here!haha  I would definately demand to atleast be seen by someone else in the clinic.  At least.  For it to still be draining after all this time is definately not good.  Did they close it back up or leave it open to heal from inside out?  I ask because I had something similar happen to me several years ago.  I had staph set up.  The doc that did my surgery wanted to close it back up after cleaning it out.  I refused to let him touch me again because of other issues and demanded to see another doc (who happened to be in the same clinic w/first one) and he did 2nd surgery cleaning all infected tissue out, but leaving it open to heal from inside out.  He said sewing it back up would cause infection to set back up again.  Incidently, the 1st doc told me I had indometriosis so bad I would never have kids and recommended a complete historectomy at the age of 20.  I refused, saw other doc who disagreed and now have 2 kids.  He did the same to my sister in law and she has 3 kids now.  Good doc wasn't he?  He no longer practices here. Take care and make them let you see another doctor before it gets any worse.
