Crawling sensation under skin on left upper back

For the last few days I have been having a weird sensation of something (like a long worm or thin snake slithering up my back in the region of the left upper quadrant of back.  I feel this when I sit down and are no other symptoms, just this very weird sensation.  I have never had it before.   What causes this.  I do not have anxiety or get depressed.

I do have sleep apnea and GERD at night but can't see that there would be any relation to those.  There is no itchiness either.

Thank you Kindd.

I just recently had a physical and had heart tests done because of murmer found during examination.  I also have mixed apnea (both obstructive and central apnea) and according to sleep study some period leg movements (actually a lot of them).  I understand that the centrals and the plm are neurological so I guess there could be a neurological connection.   I will contact my family doctor regarding a referral.  I have already just recently had blood work done for diabetes and thyroid as well as heart.

I take a B12 with B6 with Folic acid along with calcium and vitamin D and a multi.
I also eat a healthy diet.  I have not smoked or drank for over 20 some years and am coming up 64 yrs of age.

Thank you for your suggesions.

Hello,

Without examination,it is difficult to confirm a diagnosis, but from your description it looks like a problem with the functioning of neurons.

Are you a diabetic or do you take alcohol?Such feeling of crawling under the skin are common in alcoholics and metabolic disorders like diabetes, hypothyroidism, and hypoparathyroidismThey can also be due tovitamin B12 deficiency or malnutrition.

Get your blood sugar and thyroid hormones levels evaluated. You can take some vit B12 for some days and see if the tingling is gone or not.

In case the symptoms persist then pls consult a neurologist as it can be due to some neurological disorder. Common disorders causing such symptoms are brachial neuritis , transient ischemic attack, motor neurone disease, or autoimmune disorders like multiple sclerosis or lupus erythematosus. A diagnostic evaluation by a doctor is necessary to rule these out.

Treatment will depend on the diagnosis.

I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.
