hey all thank you very much for your answers.....
the ENT said it was vertigo with just a regular exam, im going for a VNG balance test on friday and that will determine if there is a problem with my ears. when they did blood work they tested for pregnancy, negative. she said she ran trst for pretty much everything i guess, she said kidneys, liver, and thyroid came back normal. no dental issues, im a dental assistant =) .....
i have read about meniers disease and a few others, and it does sound very close to what i expirence, sometimes i just think about it and it seems like it gets alot worse. like anxiety on top of whatever is originally making me dizzy
hopefully friday will give me some answers....thank you!
My son has menieres disease. He went to Ent and they diagnosed him.His dizziness was so severe the room spins around him and he crawls to bathroom. He is 22,with no other health problems.Valium helps with his, meclizine helped very minimally, but does not now.The balance test should give u some results.I know from his experience it can be a very scary thing and he said those very same things to me,that he felt like he was dying...He is doing great, working and functioning almost as well as before, but he does have to take valium when he feels an "episode" coming on.IT could be you just have something like a lil fluid in your ear or an inner ear infection or something that messes with your equilibrium. Please try to not worry and know that even though its very scary you will more than likely be just fine. They send you to neurologist a lot of times to rule out something serious,so hopefully its something simple...Keep me updated and look up menieres disease...cant hurt.Take care,i will say a prayer for ya!
Did they test you for Vertigo? If not, there is a test you can do at home to see if you have it. Let me know and I'll walk you through it. Also- pregnancy, an inner ear infection that wasnt taken care of by antibiotics, or a dental issue are all possibilities. Do you know what labs they ran? I would get a new Dr. if I were you! Dizziness is a very hard symptom to pinpoint. Any other symptoms? Hope this helps.
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
There are many causes of dizziness, lightheadedness, passing out, blackouts etc. It is difficult to comment without examination. I am just enumerating the possible causes. You can discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Some tests you already had, others you can get done.
Dizziness could be due to postural hypotension (blood pressure falling with change of position), internal ear problems and cervical spondylitis or compression of cervical spinal nerves. All these cause dizziness when you get up from lying down position or when you change position that results in a change in the level of your head. Cervical spondylitis and ear problems also cause dizziness on changing the position of the neck.
Other causes are anemia, claustrophobia, GERD, hypoglycemia or low sugar and some endocrine problems. Endocrine problems, such as an underactive thyroid (called hypothyroidism), overactive thyroid (called hyperthyroidism), adrenal insufficiency (called Addison's disease), low blood sugar levels, and in some cases, diabetes, may lead to hypotension and hence lightheadedness and an off balance feeling.
Certain types of epilepsies and seizures too can cause similar symptoms. If you have an accompanying headache then you must also look at benign intracranial hypertension. Heart problems too should be ruled out in your case. If all other tests are normal, maybe an ECHO should be done to rule out mitral valve prolapse. Patent foramen ovale too could be the cause (commonly known as hole in the heart). It can also be chronic fatigue syndrome if all other causes are ruled out. A brain lesion too can cause dizziness but often there are other neurological signs such as numbness, tingling, loss of function of a limb etc (also this has been ruled out in your case).
Take care!
