Enlarged Spleen?

I usually get a sharp pain in my abdomon* during the morning hours or the night which causes me to hold my side and feel sick. The pain is located on my left side underneath my rib cage and if I touch it, it usually feels like there is a round bump almost like a bubble. I have been to my family doctor twice about this pain but the first time he said he couldn't do anything about it, but the second time he said he could feel something and to come back if it got worse... well it got worse so i was scheduled for an ultra sound where they had told me that they could see something but it didnt look like anything bad. anyways my question is. Could it be an enlarged spleen, is there anyway i could find this out without going to my doctor and getting sent home again with no answers. and could it be anything else? i looked on google for the human organs and the only thing that i found to be on that side is the spleen. also i have recently been getting pains in the same spot on the right side of my ribs. could they be connected to the same problem... thanks im new so if this sounds stupid and isnt properly formatted i appologize. thank you.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
You will be surprised to know that stomach ulcers and severe acidity can result in hunger pangs which come so severe that they almost resemble a cramp or a sharp pain. Even GERD presents with similar symptoms. At times the hunger pangs due to acidity wakes up a person in the wee hours of night.
Consult a gastroenterologist. Meanwhile go for a late night snack along with cold milk. This remedy takes care of early morning pain and burning in the abdomen.
Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks, caffeine, and spicy food. Enlarged spleen, spleen abscess can also be the cause, but less likely due to timing of your pain. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral.
Take care!

You should probably see a different doctor? I am 27 and had mono when I was 16 and again when I was 18 so I've always had a dull achy pain where my spleen is, especially after I jog or exercise heavy, or sometimes at night for no reason. My doctor doesn't seem especially concerned. They only are really concerned if it is enlarged b/c it the risk of rupture is more likely. The right side pain could be your gall bladder? I have also had this pain and wondered if it were connected to my achy spleen, b/c they never hurt at the same time.
