Facial Skin Thinning After Allergic Reaction

I had some teeth pulled out during the Summer of 2009.  They made me use Penicillin to keep the bacteria out of my mouth.  After about 38 pills used on a regular basis, I started having an allergic Hive reaction on my face that made my facial skin extremely red, in a butterfly shape.  Now the redness will not go away, it seems almost permanent.  I went to the doctor and they gave me some Hydrocortisone.  The steroids help the redness go away in the meantime, but then it returns with thinner skin.  I know that Hydrocortisone thins your skin, but the redness is a different story, and it will not go away.  What is it, and what can I do?

Yeah, my doctor said it is not lupus, he said it was just a bad skin reaction, but it obviously has not went away. I checked in for lupus about a year ago now, as well.

When you mention the butterfly shape, I think of one of the descriptive symptoms of lupus.  Have you been tested for this?
