Ultrasound results- Huh?

My doctor said I had a swollen lymph node just below my thyroid gland that, essentially, didn't have the internal components of an average node.  In her words, "there's nothing inside of it".  Can someone explain to me what this means?  I haven't found any information about that kind of irregularity.  I'm getting an xray of it at the end of November.  I'm not freaking out over it, it's only 1.6cm, but I'd like to learn more about it.  Thanks for the help!

Is that why they're taking an xray as opposed to another scan?

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
If there is nothing inside a gland, then probably it is an empty calcified cyst. Lymph nodes cannot be empty or not have anything inside them. It could be a thyroid cyst or any other simple cyst. The next time you have an ultrasound maybe you can suggest this possibility.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
