Center Chest Pain Help

I'm not sure how to explain it, if u stick ur finger on the center of the very bottom of ur rib cage then slide it down till your just off the bone in the soft spot in the very middle, thats where the pain is. Its a sharp pain and i can push on it and make it hurt. I can't sleep anymore at night because when i try and go to sleep when i'm at the point of drifting off a kind off wave woosh feeling go's across my  body and it feels as if everything stops like i died. Before this happens though it like i can feeling it building up. So when that happens i instantly jump up and look around wide awake. I have to kind of stare for a moment because like i said everything stops and i really feel like i died. I don't know whats happening it's been going on for two weeks on and off. It's one of the scariest feelings i ever felt. So what i do now is stay awake until my body is tired enough that i just can't stay awake any longer and the tiredness kind of over powers the scary feeling of whatever the pain is. Sometimes i try and take a percocet but even that doesn't help. I'm 24 a smoker a ex alcoholic. I have no insurance and am the provider for my family so i really just need things right again i never had any major issues before medically

When you push on a bone it will hurt.  You seem to have a fear that something is going to happen to you and leave your family alone and in trouble.  This is anxiety.  You have yourself so worked up that at night your brain "looks" for pain until you "find" it.  This is typical of anxiety.  The resulting feelings are symptoms of a typical panic attack.  Panic caused by your fear of illness results in the feeling of a "wave of fear" that makes your blood pressure rise and you feel like you are going to die.  Although I think your pain in your ribs is just from your physically pushing on the bone, I think it might make you feel better to see a doctor just to ease your mind on the matter.  Anxiety can be treated with meds, but all anxiety meds are physically addicting. Antidepressants are a better choice, but they are prescription and all cost money.  If you can realize that your problems are in your mind rather than physical you may be able to train your mind not to "look" for pain and your anxiety can be controlled.  If you wish to try and over the counter remedy, you may try some Tylenol PM, which works to relax you so you can sleep better.  Check with the pharmacist first to make sure that it is won't work against any other meds you may be taking.  Pharmacists are there to give you advice and don't cost you anything. They will not give you medical advice, but can recommend some over the counter meds that might help you.  good luck
