Head vibrations/electrical sensations through brain and body (esp. spine), leg and body numbness..HELP!

Hey all. Perhaps I should introduce myself.

My name is Crystal, and since October 31st around 3 am, I have been in a constant struggle with problems ranging from clenching chest pains, heart palps, increased heartrate, head jitters/electrical vibrations/sensations through head and spine (like a painful electrical current that radiates up and down my spine), I have had my limbs go tingly, and even one time my right leg went numb and it kind of cocked up a little and went limp, so I was unable to move it...

I went to the ER numerous times, where they did a CT with contrast of the chest, thyroid tests, electrolyte blood test, etc.

I have also gone to Psychiatrists, Neurologists, Cardiologists, etc. The only real physical thing they could come up with was my Mitral Valve Prolapse, but said it was too minor to be causing any problems.

The doctors issued EEGS, another echo (I had one 2 years ago), EKGs and haltar monitors, ya name it. I have had bloodwork for my B-12 levels, thyroid tests I can't even count anymore, Lyme Titer, ANA Titer, etc...

They concluded possibly anxiety and panic attacks, but these problems are too PHYSICALLY severe to possibly be. Many doctors are still scratching their heads at me and don't know WHAT's GOING ON!!

\I at first thought I was going INSANE when I had my first vibrating/electrical sensation. I thought for sure I was going insane, and I didn't know WHAT to expect. I thought for sure it would lead to a seizure, I would black-out, or something!!

I was initially told that I was suffering from Panic Disorder/Panic Attacks. since I at first was getting the typical attacks of the heart palpitations, clenching chest wall pain, lightheadedness, and freaking out that I was going to die or have a heart attack.

So my doctor decided to try putting me on Zoloft, in the SSRI class of anti-depressants since she thought for sure it would do me wonders and eventually get rid of and eliminate my symptoms. My GP promptly wrote me a script for Zoloft at 25 MG, and told me, "take this, you will be fine and it will do you wonders!"

So I left, of course stupididly believing every word she said. I went and filled the prescription, and the next day popped my first pill...

About a few hours into taking it, I had the WORST feeling in my life (well, it only got WORSE from there). I felt severely woozy and lightheaded, and had to sit down to balance and keep myself together. It felt like the entire room was spinning, and my head just felt BLAH all together, like I was getting a head illness or something. I was in a store that day, since I assumed everything with the med. would be fine, and was getting ready to check out when it just HIT me like a ton of bricks. Now, I have had lightheaded spells TONS of times in the past as well as Panic Attacks and Chest Pains, and it was NOTHING like those I had experienced before!!

After that ONE day of taking the pill, I deviated away from taking it again! My symptoms improved, and I no longer had any more of those light headed spells after that one day..

However, as I was STILL suffering from the severe heart palps, chest pains and anxiety/panic attacks, my mother convinced me to give the med. another try, since my "sis was on an SSRI for her GAD and it was working her WONDERS." Still skeptical about taking the med., but DESPERATE to get rid of my other symptoms, I again popped the med...

Now, the first day I was fine, and this was on a Friday. I was back in the apartment with my fiancee, and it was late one Saturday night, and I was just lying in bed waiting for my man to finish getting ready for bed so I could follow up as well. I then all of a sudden felt this ELECTRICAL SURGE seem to VIBRATE throughout my head/brain, along with a ten-fold pins-and-needles feeling that surged through my head. I then felt the electrical surge feeling continue to surge through me, even going up and down my spinal cord. I PANICKED, of course, not knowing WHAT was happening to me. I started seeing blotches, and I PANICKED that I was going to pass out, have a seizure or SOMETHING!! I ran around the apartment, the feeling still going on through my head. I then tried sitting on the bed to calm myself down and regain myself, and it seemed like it started to pass. Then, I felt ANOTHER attack, worse than the first, which truly caused me to have blotchy vision and just go into utter chaos.

My fiancee drove me to the hospital in case by the time we got there my symptoms worsened or progressed. Eventually, the off-and-on symptoms DID pass, after about 45 min. to an hour of pure hell and off-and on VIBRATION FEELINGS and ELECTRICAL FEELINGS surging through my brain.

We just went back to the apartment, and I went to bed that night.

The next morning, I woke up, and probably a mix between me having the attack that night and due to the fact I didn't get much sleep, I felt completely SLOW and BLAH the entire day. I could barely bring myself to speak, I dragged myself slowly across the room, and I just overall felt like a complete pile of ****!!

I called the doctor-on-call (since it was a weekend) and told him about my horrific experience. You know what he did?? He "Poo-Pooed" me away and told me "Oh, it's not the medicine, just you. It was probably just a bad Panic Attack." I was SO mad....he also told me to "continue on the med." >:(

I continued taking the med., and that following week, on a Wednesday, I had ANOTHER milder, but more PROLONGED attack that lasted off-and-on for about 2 HOURS!! :( :( It kept me up until like 1:30 a.m., so needless to say I slept in late the next day...

The problems FINALLY seemed to dissipate, for about 2 weeks. However, after those 2 weeks were up (and I was still on the med.), I AGAIN began getting the weird head attacks!! Most were not as severe as the first, but they were still attacks nonetheless. Now, I have had Panic Attacks, and know what those were like, and sure these caused me to have Panic Attacks also, but moreso since I didn't know WHAT THE HELL was going on!!! :(

I was then getting head-related zings/buzzings/electrical sensation attacks EVERY DAY, sometimes mild and bearable and other times not.

I eventually STOPPED the med. after having it in my system for a month, but my stupid GP (she is a good doctor, but not for things like this) told me to QUIT IT COLD TURKEY. She said I should not experience too much side effects, if any.

Well, needless to say it made my head attacks TEN FOLD!! Sometimes they were mild and bearable, like before. And there were days I went without attacks. But when the bad ones struck, they left me PARALYZED in certain limbs, my head felt like it was going to go into CONVULSIONS or something, and it was just like PURE HELL!! I was completely conscious during these attacks, so you can imagine the FEAR I was under during this time.

I had an attack that was SO BAD once: I was just sitting on my computer, and then I all of a sudden felt this WEIRD sensation in my brain, particularly on my RIGHT side, and it felt like my brain/head was going to go HAYWIRE!! It physically felt like I was about to have a stroke, seizure or SOMETHING, even though I never did!! Well, of course I PANICKED, and I called the ambulance in fear it was in fact a TIA, stroke, or seizure about to happen!! I walked downstairs from my apartment, and as I stood on the stairwell by the doors to my apartment complex, I could feel my WHOLE RIGHT LEG BUCKLE UP, GO NUMB, and I COULD NOT EVEN MOVE IT!!! I was PETRIFIED!! What the HELL was going on with me?!?! :( The ambulance came, and before they came I could feel the feeling return in my right leg, it went "erect" again and I was able to regain control of it. I had to BALANCE myself by holding onto the railing of the stairs while it happened. Yet I remember every speck and detail of it perfectly...

After about a month 1/2 or so, and after starting on a mult-vitamin since I thought maybe I had some vitamin deficiencies that were attributing to my problems, my problems not only began to dissipate, but the head zings almost vanished COMPLETELY!! I still get the dizziness/lightheadedness and my head will feel quooky/odd still at times during some of my Panic Attacks, yet NOTHING like I had to endure before!! And sure, I still get heart palps and anxiety, but NOTHING like the torment and torture I had to go through getting ON and then OFF the Zoloft!!!

I am now seeing a Psychiatrist, who prescribed me with Lorazepam and also prescribed me with Lexapro, even though I TOLD him about my reaction to Zoloft. He was STILL convinced, however, that it was just Zoloft and that another SSRI should do the trick. Well guess what happened???

I took it on a Saturday, and for most of the day I was fine (aside from feeling a little tired). I thought maybe I was HOME-FREE and found a med. that would work GREAT!! I took it at NOON along with the Lorazepam, which I take 2-3 times daily. After 6 HOURS of the med. being in my system (Lexapro), I got ANOTHER head-related attack of the electrical vibrations, ten-fold pins and needles feeling, and getting sweaty and clammy, then cold. I immediately called my doctor, and STOPPED taking the med from there on out.

I am still taking another med., Lorazepam, for the panic attacks, but I still get the head zings and vibrations occassionally still (perhaps as a reaction to having the Lexapro in my sys. for that one day???).

I mean, my doctors assumed it was part of my Panic Attacks, but how could it make my LIMBS GO NUMB like that and UNABLE TO MOVE, let alone those painful electrical surge feelings I used to always get.

Anyone else have any advice/ideas as to what is going on with me??

i didnt read your whole thing because it was too long...but i will say ive had similar things happen to me that happened to you.  and im still trying to find someone with the answer to what is wrong with me.
symptoms: severe panick attacks, heart palps, chest pain and numbness, numb legs and fingertips, aching organs, muscle spasms and twitchs (once my body curled backwards...really scary), fingers turning dark red brown with blisters coming out of fingertips, blotchy vision,.........and yesterday was the first time this happened but i had the same electrical buzzing and vibrating occur in my brain. i thought i was having a stroke.  but it sounds like mine was less severe than yours.

anyways, its been a year now since it started and everything is fading...no more panick attacks (or very rare), my body acts normal, though my eyes have nerve damage done so they arent the same and my toes are still a little numb...but for the most part im getting better.

my started from a depression medicine (welbutrin) mixed with an energy drink (redline) and 4 pills of coricdin cold and cough.

anyways, if yours is anything like mine...i dunno i personally recomend staying away from thes meds...they scare me after this whole ordeal.  time, strength and patience is what got me over this but anyways good luck.

Funny all those symptoms seem to be related to anxiety.. Mostly if you have taken SSRI's such as paxil.. I didn't get brain zaps.. I got like zaps on my body.. I've had about every symptom you have named withdrawing 7 months off paxil after taking it for 2 years.. So yeah, it would easily be anxiety. I had bad experience with pills for that ****.. It basically leaves your brain in worse than a mess than before hand.. I suffer from heavy derealization (I always feel like I'm in a dream, like I'm looking through glass or what not) you withdrawal off that ****.. You have to work through stuff that was there before the pill.. And stuff the pill caused.. I went on it for panic attacks.. When I weaned off.. I had about 8 different types of mental illnesses..

Thank you for your reply back to me, gtdevore. Wow, I cannot believe all that Wellbutrin has done to you...:( I am wondering though WHY exactly the medicines (the anti-depressants) was causing this ADVERSE REACTION to us??? Is there some underlying physical/neurological problem or defecit that led our bodies and minds to behave in such a way??? Even to the point where it led our bodies to go NUMB, UNABLE TO MOVE, causing OUR BRAINS TO GO COMPLETELY WIRE, even DISRUPT THE ELECTRICAL AND CHEMICAL BALANCE so as to cause such horrid reactions??

And that is horrible to hear about your reaction: you even got BLISTERS??? I have NEVER heard of a reaction like that. I am wondering if you were just by chance ALLERGIC to something that was in that medication, which would explain the BLISTERS....

And your BACK EVEN ARCHED BACKWARDS?!?!?!? Wow...I mean what happened??? That sounds like no ordinary muscle spasm or twitch....please explain to me exactly what it was you experienced or had.

I had my back go stiff/sore, and had this JOLT SHARP KNOT PAIN in one part of my back, and my back would get the ELECTRICAL VIBRATION AND SURGE up and down my spine and in my brain, and my muscles in my back would TENSE UP, but NO WHERE near enough to make my back arch!!!!

Or IS there something else underneath it all...that doctors JUST aren't seeing?? That is the cause of our chest pains, muscle pains and spasms, heart palps, panic attacks, AS WELL AS our adverse reaction to these meds. to lead to HEAD JITTERS AND ELECTRICAL SENSATIONS, etc.???

Was it all really JUST THE MED.?? Or is there some underlying dilemma all of us are facing that they aren't seeing...aside from the Panic Attacks and Anxiety itself?? Or is it simply that our bodies just can't react well with those particular medications??? But WHY, then, WHY is it US that must have those adverse reactions to those meds., and all strikingly SIMILAR and some EXACT reactions too?? This can't be but mere coincidence....

If there are ANY SPECIALISTS or DOCTORS who come to this board...even though I know it is for Patient-to-Patient...PLEASE answer our cries of DESPERATION and DESPAIR!!! WHAT IS GOING ON WITH US??? Why is it that we, of all individuals, have this ADVERSE REACTION to these meds., and all are too strikingly similar or exact to just poo-poo away!!

Please, for the love of God, if anyone can answer that, please do!!!

haha...sigh i know how you feel.  i can feel the pain and suffering you feel because ive been there.  but let me tell you....the stress that you feel right now because of it all will not help you.  I dont have any answers to what the deal was with me or you...i dont have health insurance so i just rode it out and hoped id come out with my life.  but i learned that the more i stressed and the more i worried, the more the symptoms would play tricks on me.  even in the middle of an attack i would force myself to remain calm even though im losing eyesight or im feeling intense pain or numbness in my chest and as soon as i could calm down and realize its going to be ok...it would fade. my worse attacks were in the begining when i really thought i was going to die and i would freak out on the virge of loosing conciousness. and i would fight to stay awake by running...running out of pure terror.

i honestly think my trouble resulted in a reaction from the mixing of the 3 different drugs i used.  i did some research and some of the chemicals in them warn not to mix with the other chemicals i used...saying there could be life threatening consiquences.  and from then on who knows why my body kept acting so crazy.  i will never take another depression pill again for sure though.  the area of the brain they mess with is just such a important part of the body i dont want to be tamporing with.  they really are dangerous medications..

its comforting to know another person out there is experiencing the same problems because i feel like the only one.  obviously we both have problems with our central nervous system....ive done pretty good damage to my nerves.  i dont know how much youve done.  i hear everything wrong with me should get better besides for my eyesight.  im probably going to have to go to an eye specialist of some sort about that.

i tell you what though....some of the things ive gone through in the past year are pretty creepy.  nobody ive talked to, even a doctor, knows what the symptoms my body was doing ment....like my fingers turning dark red brown before my eyes and blood blisters forming on my finger tips (i didnt have fingerprints for the longest time because of the scars) and the muscle spasms causing my body to curl in a backwards U and my tastebuds burning and loss of hearing and eyesight....sometimes i wonder how close i really did come to dying.  i heard from a drug counciler that im lucy to be alive and i believe it...

just remember we've made it through the tough part.  slowly but surley things are gonna get better.  relax, and try not to stress about it.  just understand that your gonna be different than how you used to feel for awhile and accept it.  itll get better.

though those meds are bull.  they anger me.  i feel that they could be substitued with safer and more fulfilling alternatives like playing the guitar or working out or something...i dunno.  after all the hell ive gone through because of them, i dont see how its legal.  anyways take care.  if you want to call me im george- 972.921.4584

Hi Crystal,
I am not a doctor, but have been reading several sights. Have you checked out any sights on Parkison's disease? Some of your symptoms sound similar. I don't remember if it was you or the other one who responded to you had the arched back, but that was a symptom as well. I pray that's not what is going on, but thought there was a similarity in symptoms.
Hope you are better very soon!!!

Thank you for your concern, but it is DEFINATELY NOT Parkinson's disease. I am aware of the symptoms and the like of Parkinson's, and it is far from it.

I had another meeting with my psychiatrist today, and he is as puzzled as I am as to why my body has reacted in such a way to the serotonin in the SSRI anti-depressants, especially as quickly as I did.

What he has deduced SO FAR is he seems to think there is something in my GENETICS that is causing that adverse reaction to the SSRI's. He asked me if I had any relatives who were BI-POLAR, since he said it is often individuals who are BI-POLAR or exhibit the BI-POLAR GENE that have that QUICK and that bad of a reaction to the Serotonin in the SSRI's.

Yet he may also think there is some other underlying problem, and we just can't figure it out. Whether it be just a gene or something else going on along with my Panic Disorder, he just doesn't know WHAT to think of this. For now I am just sticking on the Lorazepam, and he is UPPING that to 2 MG since he does NOT want to risk any more adverse reactions to the other anti-depressant meds.

He DID ask me if I knew of any blood-relatives with Bi-Polar disorder, and all I know is that my half-brother has ANGER issues. Yet I do not know if he is Bi-polar or not, nor if it is even on my side of the gene pool (since he is ONLY my half-bro. via my biological mother), and I don't even know his father or his background. The only things I DO know are that I got my MVP (Mitral Valve Prolapse) and Panic Attacks from her. Aside from that, I really dunno what else I could have gotten from them.

However, in reality BOTH the Psych. and I are clueless as to what is going on. The neuro. I went to see said he couldn't help me, and the psych. WANTS to help me figure out what is going on, and he is scratching his head on this as well.

ANY other advice/help would be greatly appreciated!!! PLEASE!!! :(

Here are the tests I did get done, and my family I know is through with testing, but at least wants to figure out what is going on:

ANA TITER: clear

B12 Levels: FINE

CT with contrast of chest: FINE

Head CT- NO contrast: Only showed some minor calcium deposits and asymmetry of the two hemispheres, but seems to be normal/of normal origin.

Head MRI - NO CONTRAST: Only the asymmetry. The calcium deposits didn't show up on the MRI.

20-min. EEG- NORMAL

EKGs: NORMAL.

ECHO: only the Mitral Valve Prolapse, otherwise CLEAR. No clogged arteries, etc.

LYME TITER: clear

Thyroid - COMPLETE CHECKUP: CLEAR

Electrolytes: CLEAR/FINE

Plus some other tests I can't remember...I had WAY too many done....but that's what I can recall seeing on the paperwork.

So any other help or advice anyone?? Any help or advice you can provide is GREATLY appreciated!!

Hey everyone...there is a topic about this on AnxietyZone.net, and somebody with the SN on there called "KING" posted his insight, and I wanted your all's input about the head jitters/electrical sensations caused by the SSRI's:

_________________________________________________________________

"Perhaps I can offer a biochemical focus on this....

As we know all medications for anxiety and depression work by balancing or selectively increasing neurotransmitters in our brains.

Our brains work via nervous transmission along infinite numbers of pathways linking one region to another. Nervous transmission in our brains is affected by the levels of 6 core neuro-chemicals, out of which 3 particularly affect mood - dopamine, serotonin and noradrenalin. GABA isnt a mood chemical but affects adrenalin production causing fight/flight responses. All these chemicals are targets for drug synthesis and effect.

However, its much more complex than that. As you affect one chemical the brain tends to correspondingly increase or decrease other chemicals via indirect mechanisms.

Anyway, because CNS (central nervous system) drugs affect neurotransmitter levels, they affect which pathways are used by the brain.

Or in other words, the change in neurotransmitter levels means that the brain is able to use different pathways than before - or pathways that it had stopped using. The same regions are linked as before, its just that they can be linked via an infinite number of different routes.

Its this switching or restoring of routes that causes a kind of 'rewiring' effect which is often felt as a "brain shock" or as an "electric shock" in the brain. These feelings will often come in the first few weeks or during tapering off for a CNS drug. Or they can occur without drugs.

I also believe that the jolts, buzzes and tingles are caused by similar bases. Although the tingles may be skin or muscle related which are typical anxiety symptoms.

These effects are nothing to be worried about although they have the potential to startle and unsettle us. The brain is designed to rewire itself as needed.

Over a period of time, as the brain gets used to using new pathways (and it does this all the time - its just that for some people taking drugs causes this happens more markedly) the effects felt will diminish. Remember, its the brain's ability to use new pathways or upregulate some and downregulate others at different times that makes it such a special and complex organ. And makes it quite self-defensive, like how a person who has had a stroke with loss of speech is able to speak again after a period of time as new pathways are used (and built).

Anyway, hope this is of interest
King"

Hey Crystal

Sorry to hear what you are going through. I can relate as i have been experiencing the same things going on 28 months. to give you a brief history, i went to see my doc regarding some heart palpitatons i was having.  She precribed generic xanax. I had no idea what it was   but i took them because i trusted my doc.  while on the drugs i found myself coming up with the craziest symptoms.  i started to get muscle twitches everywhere, ringing in my ears, vibrations in my head.  i went to my doc and she told me to continue taking the xanax.  well before you know it i was up to 4 mg a day and i still had no idea what the drugs were and my symptoms were getting horrible. after a month i thought i was going nuts and i finally went back to my doc and she prescibed lexapro not knowing what lexapro was.  well things were getting worse and worse. i finally did some research online and found out what xanax and lexapro were.  i was furious and told my doc that had she informed me what they were that i would never have gotten on them. i had became an accidental addict and was going throught interdose withdrawals mainly from the xanax.  i wanted off the drugs and she basically told me to stop and that i should have no problems as i had not been on them that long(2 moths total).  Big mistake.  In additon to the symptoms above i now have sunburn and electric shock sensations, pins and needles, vertigo and constant feeling of being on a boat and 24/7 major heart pounding that reverbates and vibrates through my whole body and my head.  In addition i feel as though i have liquid goo sloshing in my head when i move it from side to side .90 % of the people who go on these drugs have no problem coming off but there are some including myself who don't tolerate these meds too well.  oh yes and i know that anxiety does play role.  you need to be careful with your meds . i am considering going on an ssri like a paxil.  i have been tested for everything at ucla including dysautonomia.  everything is negative.  my brain is firing incorrectly and i am hoping that one day it things get back to normal.  hope things get better for you.  if you need to drop me a line u can e-mail me at ***@****.  thanks Johnny

Dragon - it's interesting when I was cruising symptoms I saw this. I had electrical shock feelings in my legs very badly a while back. It didn't hurt so much, but it travelled down my legs and felt cold. Very annoying. Still have them a little. I had jerking motions in my legs. I also had tingling feet, numb feelings and EXTREME lightheadedness. But nothing in my chest. I thought something was hitting up against a nerve, possibly a tumor. My problem ended up being ovarian-related. I never could figure out the reason for these symptoms. Possibly the cysts I had were clinging to other organs and causing problems (?). That's all the doctors could think of.  All the research I did pointed to either a tumor or a diabetic neuropathy (but I'm not diabetic), and we finally discovered two benign ovarian cysts. I too had the B12 and thyroid tests. I had an MRI brain, EMG, etc. Eventually CT Scan pelvis confirmed. I still had problems after my surgery. I started seeing an Acupuncturist. Have you tried any alternative therapy? I have to say the Acupuncturist has helped. I still have some problems though. Don't give up.

I have had these "electrical" sensations for almost 3 years.  They started when I became very ill with what the doctors said was a bacterial infection (I think they were just guessing). I was sick for a month with nausea, diarrhea and 0 energy.  I had been taking Zoloft for several years at this point and it was while I was sick that the electrical sensations started.  I was still taking the medication and continued to take it for almost another year.  I don't know how gradual I stopped taking it because I changed jobs and was taking it off and on till I eventually quit.  The electrical sensations have continued since, about a year and a half, but have recently become worse.  They have gone from occasional to almost constant.  Sometimes they are mild and other times they are strong and "loud" (they have caused me to wake up in the middle of the night).  I have recently gone to the doctor because they are getting worse and they are clueless.  They did do a MRI looking for MS but it was clear as best as I know (I never got the results untill I called and the nurse read them to me though she did not know what most of it meant).  It had never occured to me that taking Zoloft could be the cause of this problem.  At the time I started taking Zoloft it was a life saver but now that I am no long taking it I am fine and have no desire to start again.  Does anyone know what can be done about these sensations?  They can be quite agrivating and disruptive.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I read most of what you wrote, and the replies. I am suffering from Paxil, Neurontin, and Seraqual. I stopped taking those meds in Sept of 2005. I had been taking them for 4 almost 5 years. I kept gaining weight, They kept blaming my thyriod it wasn't that. It was the meds of course. I kep suffering from cronic muscle fatigue. I weighed in at 400 lbs by the time I got off the meds and could barely walk. Today I am at 211. I thought with the weight loss I would feel better my health would improve, but it hasn't. Now I am trying to figure out what's going on with my legs and hands. They keep going numb. I keep getting cold chills, and I keep getting told those are the remaining side effects from Paxil. I don't believe it since it's been 2 years off the meds. I suggest you go get a 2nd and 3rd opinion seek out a Dr until you find the right one, That's what I am in the process of doing.

please ask your doctor about the investigation of Multiple Sclerosis might be your chest symptoms are different from your numbness. Also go for Cholesterol level, and ECG

i suffer from this as well. i have been diagnosed wuth Fibromyalgia, but wha the doctors tend to do when they diagnose you is to stop looking for the co-existing conditions. i am in a new episode and somedays you just want to jump. it is not fair to us that the medical society runs once they give us an "answer". keep pushing them.

Chiari seems to be the most likely of all of our issues. i will keep hunting.

luck to all and good health.

Dont think its antdepressants. Been on Paxil and Zoloft, and Prozac, Wellbutrin. No shocks. I beleive fro research that the mood stabilizers do it. In my case Depakote (valproic acid). Although i was on minimal dose I had shocks and doc finally did blood test to test levels (not warranted unless on 1400mg a day (I was on 750mg) and I had overdosed on it. Just following docs orders. Always demand weeking blood test if on a mood satbilizer (not Anti Depress) I suffer form Severe Anxiety and Bipolar

Hi Crystal,
I have been through this very same process and trust me... the medical profession hasn't a clue.  I understand completely what this feels like!  This began for me back in 1999.  I use the term process because that is exactly what it is.
The vibrations in my head started bringing up and clearing emotional garbage I have been stuffing away forever.  Stuff I wasn't even consciously aware of. (severe anxiety, depression and a whole lot of other stuff as well)  I too felt I was going insane!!!  Quite the opposite, you are becoming a clearer vessel...your life will change miraculously as a result of this!  You just haven't met up with the right people yet! (for the right information)
Today, I am so different than I used to be! (as a result of this process) I am actually helping people overcome all sorts of emotional, mental and physical issues. (far better than any medication or  therapist can)  I have become an Energy Worker.(healer)
It wouldn't surprise me if you or anyone else that is experiencing this is capable of following this same path. (provided one is not drugging up to numb out) Too bad so few professionals understand this!
I wish I would have found your plea sooner but today was the day I came across it!  I hope you find this helpful and that you are still checking for responses.  Would love to correspond with you!  Please feel free to email me...***@****
Love,
Cynthia

lullabyguild:

YES, it indeed WAS the anti-depressants!! I did not have the symptoms prior to that, and it happened AGAIN once I tried another anti-depressant, Lexapro. I took it one time, and 6 hours later, I had another head electrical sensation/numbness, etc. that I had not had for MONTHS until then.

Anti-depressants are NOT a treatment for everybody. For some, it can change their life around. For me (and others) it was a complete nightmare. I have an overly sensitive ANS (Autonomic Nervous System) and my Central Nervous System is also a little off-wack so it just sent them into overdrive. Plus, I have sufficient levels of Serotonin in my body (I was not suffering from depression, just panic attacks) so all it did was create an overload of Serotonin and cause chaos to my ANS.

You should check out a website which helped me to better understand WHY Anti-depressants didn't work for me. The link is here:

www.panic411.com

I have found that link to be a miracle for me, as it explained every symptom, why SSRI's and anti-depressants don't always work and sometimes cause more harm than good for people with Panic Disorder/Panic Attacks, etc.

I am now taking Lorazepam 2 MG 3X daily (6 MG total) and I never felt better in my entire life! Once stable for awhile, I will wean myself off the medication.

The only problems I have now are post-trama based on some experiences with my Ex, as I am overly sensitive to everything/cry easily/get depressed easily at times since he mentally and verbally abused me. But that's another story...

Releasetrama: Thank you for your consideration, and your story. Yet I am now pretty much home-clear with my head electrical sensations and panic attacks. As stated to lullabyguild, my problems are more EMOTIONAL now, but it's not because of my panic attacks, but post-trama from my abuse with my EX. I may be OVER HIM, but what he put me through mentally tramatized me to the point I just BROKE, emotionally, psychologically, you name it. I was and am still at times a wreck. I cry easily to the littlest things sometimes, and when I get stressed/depressed all I do is cry, and I can't get myself out of it. I hate it....I know I need help at those times, but I can't control it at times, so I just keep on crying until I can't cry anymore, or the problem somehow gets resolved.

If you know of anyone who could help me with this, that would be great! Thanks for all of your help. But the Panic attacks and head sensations are gone for good!!! :D

TO BOTH AND ALL: This was posted last year BTW, you both should make note of this for next time. :) Message me instead of posting/bumping an old post if I still have this problem.

Hi Crystal
I have had these electrical shocks and buzz vibrationsin my head for 25 years and they are a nightmare. I have never taken any ssrs or antidepressants or any other form of drugs. My father suffered from the same things as well and he has never taken any drugs or antidepressants or ssrs. My nuerologist gives me gabapentin which dont seem to be working as i have now been taking them for 2 years and have increased the dose to 900mg a day during this 2 year period.people think i am crazy as they dont understand what it is such as the dentist i have just been to for the first filling of a tooth in 25 years and the drill has brought the shocks on ...she didnt know what to make of it but we had to stop the drill ... so bit of a nightmare ! I would be very interested to speak to anyone who is experiencing these head shocks / vibrations but who has never taken any ssrs or antidepressants.

Well I did a search online for vibrations/electrical shocks in my head and body.  And I found this website.  I just started meeting with doctors recently.  I am 31 years old and recently I have been getting more sick by each day.  The vibrations started about 3 months ago and they are driving me insane.  So far no one has given me a diagnosis.  Right now my symtoms are tingeling, numbness in my hands, feet and head.  My body feels weak all the time.  Vomiting on ocassions, dizziness, feeling like I am going to fall (this could be from all the vibrations), blue feet, purple feet, mood swings, headaches, stomache issues, severe back pain (especially in my spine).  They did an MRI on my neck stating maybe I had some genetics disorder, then they say maybe MS.... I just do not think anyone understands, and I to feel nuts.  I go back to the neuro on the 6th and the only way I can describe the vibrations is putting a electirc massager up to my head on and off and it is driving me insane.  Let me also state that I had an eating disorder from the time I was 14 t0 24, and ever since then I have been good with my eating.  I was on anti depressants before, but they never caused any issues other than making me eat.  I stopped taking them because I got better and for a couple of years I thought things were fine, until now.  Seriously does anyone have an answer.  I am at the point where I just don't want to deal with any of this anymore.  What the HECK do doctors seriously know, I think they think I am nuts, and I am not nuts.  This vibration **** is making me nuts, and being tierd but other than that, I am pretty sane.  Any help is appreciated and I will let you know what the wacko doctor says.  Thanks

I have experienced over the past few years almost all the sensations and maladies described above, and, have taken almost all the tests mentioned. The department of neurology chair at a major university hospital said there is no medical answer for any of the sensations. Calls them, therefore, idiopathic. Yet, I know what they are and what causes them. They are various forms of what is now called anxiety. I know this because a xanax relieves them -- not without fail, but almost without fail. Anxiety, however, is not the best word because there are so many, so different. Sufferers are better off using a different word under which they all lie -- dysautonomia. It doesn't help much because the word is simply a catchall. But it catches more than anxiety does. Still, the prognosis is gloomy. The condition is akin to wanting to be 6 feet tall and finding you're only  5 foot seven.
