Headaches after trauma

Sorry, I will try to keep this as short as possible. About 12 years ago I was shot in the face with a BB gun. The BB lodged itself around my left eye, about a hair away from the eyeball. I had surgery done to extract the BB after a bad infection around the eye. The doctors were unsucesfull in extracting the BB, but said it should never move or cause a problem.

About 1.5 years ago I got pregnant with my first child, about week 28 I started to get an infection around my eye, after being admitted to Albany medical Center in Albany, Ny for a week and recieving IV antibiotics, everything seemed to be okay. I still had pain in the eye, and I had to see an orbital plastic surgeon to reconstruct my tear duct. They would not do the surgery while I was pregnant, so I remained on antibiotics and pain killers for the rest of the pregnancy. I delivered on feb 25, 2008. Approx 6 weeks after delivery I had surgery to reconstruct the tear duct. They removed the BB, which was entirely black and rusted. Surgery went great, and my tear duct is completly functional.

Right after I stopped taking pain meds for the surgery I started getting headaches. The orbital plastic surgeon said there was no possibility I was getting the headaches from the surgery. I started seeing numerous doctors whom could not find the right diagnoses and medication. I get headaches just about all the time, narcotics work very well, but the doctors and I agree that it's not the best choice. I have seen 2 nuerologist who insist I have migraines, I have tried topomax, and about 45 other types of medication. I do not have classic migraine symptoms such as sensitivity to light or sound. I have had a CT of my brain and an XRay of my sinuses with nothing found.

I have run out of options as my newest doctor insists that I have headaches from perfume, caffeine, and smoking. It's not possible as I have gone without all 3 for a period of 4 months with not let up of the headaches.

I also have some anxiety problems. I was taking Paxil for them, but I curently am weaning off. I was also diagnosed with hypotension about 2 months ago. EKG came out just fine and no other reasoning became aparent.

A few days ago, I stood up and blacked out. I fell backwards on a chair and started convulsing. It lasted approx 10-15 seconds. At first I didnt know where I was, once I realized, I stopped shaking and was able to stand. I was a little shakey but seemed to be okay. Since then I have had worse headaches, fluid in my left ear, and pain around my left eye. There doesnt seem to be any infection...Just a dull pain more so around the area of the surgery scar.

I really need some help, this has gotten to the point of unbearable. Thank you very much!

Also, my Husband and I are trying to concieve another child. This time, I am refusing any medication, and IF somehow these are migraines and nothing has worked on me, my nuerologist said they will go away at the 2nd trimester. So hopefully that is the case.

I did a little research the other day and thought that maybe I had lead poisoning. The symptoms all seem to fit from mood disorders to miscarriages and convulsions. I thought maybe when the BB was distrupted during surgery I could have gotten the lead poisoning. But, I guess my lead level is completely normal. It seemed to make the most sense. Does this sound like any other poisoning or disorder to you?

Thank  you for your response!

The fluid in the ear has been a recent problem and I have never seem to have that problem before. I have traveled on a plane with no issue and the headaches have been around much longer than the fluid in the ear. It just recently started after I had the convulsions.

And I am sorry, I'm not sure what an ENT specialist is.

But thank you for responding, I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Fluid in the ear could be due to several causes. These problems can also cause severe headaches. Hence your problem may not be related to your surgery. Please consult an ENT specialist.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
