Hormone Therapy

I am 74 years old and have been on Hormone Therapy for 24 years.  My new doctor had advised me that she will not continue my prescription because she in uncomfortable to prescribe to a woman over 65 years of age.  I think that is my decision to make.

It all depends on why you were prescribed the hormone therapy, what hormone it is to whether you should carry on taking it or not.

Unfortunately, it is the doctor's decision whether you should continue with the hormone therapy.  Your decision is if you agree to take it or not.

If you are concerned about the therapy being stopped, you should ask your doctor the question why.  You should also ask the doctor that because  you have been on the therapy all these years, could there be any withdraw symptoms or other health issues that need to be taken into account.

There is no point in taking any medication just because you have been taking it for over 20 years.  But the health implications do need to be considered and weighed up.

Discuss your concerns with the doctor, or make an appointment to see a different doctor at the practice to get a second medical opinion.

No, actually it's hers being that she is the one ordering the medication.  If you are not comfy with her decision, find yourself another MD to care for you.  I will tell you that more and more studies have been discovering the side effects and risks associated with taking hormones, ie...increasing heart troubles, stroke, clots, etc.  Good luck with your choice!
