OUCH!

Hi Doctor.  In the summer of 2007 I got what I thought was a nasty spider bite.  It got quite swollen and sore.  As the bite healed I was left with a pea sized, cyst like scar on the back of my upper thigh.  About 5 days ago, I started noticing that the scar was a little tender.  On the 3rd, I noticed that it was extremely swollen (about the size of a golf ball) and even more tender.  I went to see my family Doctor.  She put me on anitbiotics for seven days and told me it would take about 48 hours for them to start to work.  Today the lunp is VERY swollen (about the size of a lemon) and VERY painful.  I'm having a hard time sitting/standing and walking.  Should I go back to the Doctor??  or wait it out to see if the anitbiotics start to work?

Also, I am 15 1/2 weeks pregnant so I'm more concerned than I normally would be.

Thanks for you help.

If you have concerns, it's always a good idea to see a doctor. An infected cyst the size of a golf ball may call for drainage rather than just antibiotics, but your doctor would know best.

If you have a fever, sweats, chills, nausea, vomiting, spreading rash from the cyst or feeling generally unwell it's time to see a physician for sure.

Yeah, you need to see a physician. Like now.

Probably the wound has to be drained and cleaned, which isn't as painful as it sounds.

Make sure you tell the physician you are pregnant!

Antibiotics sometimes have to be used, but only with caution and discretion during pregnancy.
