One cheek hot and purple

Tonight I noticed that my left cheek on my face is hot to the touch and even feels hot without touching it.  It is so much darker than my right cheek that it looks purple.  My right cheek looks only a little bit red, but it's a normal temperature.

Would this have anything to do with my lips peeling everyday and the upper lip (where a man's mustache would be) is red and always has dry flaky skin?

Or, are these two separate issues?

What would cause this to happen?

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
You either have a contact dermatitis or a contact dermatitis that has got infected. You should get an allergy test done, either a skin test or RAST, to know what you are allergic to. Contact dermatitis could be due to tooth pastes, mouth cleansers, spoons, cups, glasses, food items, cosmetics, shampoos, etc, basically anything that comes in contact with your lips.
Once you have dermatitis, the skin becomes prone to infection. The other possibility is a hematoma that developed due to some injury and got infected.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

What ever this was seems to have been some kind of unusual flushing.  I don't remember ever having it happen on just one side of my face before or ever having the purple color.  It came, then it was gone a few minutes later.

I discovered that I am going through some terrible reaction to a medication that caused me to have too much Prolactin.  My doctor told me that it's going to take several weeks for it to return to normal and for the bad medication to leave my system.  I can't take any pain medications, because the only ones I can tolerate are NSAIDS, but I have inflammation in my stomach right now, so I can't use NSAIDS right now.  My doctor said that the only thing I can do is cold compresses and plenty of rest.

I am wondering if the strange flushing could've had anything to do with my body reacting to this medication.

Hi
Thanks for keeping me posted!
The only logic that I can offer you is that if the flushing type of reaction resulting in bluish color is only on one cheek then it has to be something localized to the left side of your face. It cannot be a reaction to a medicine as this will be more generalized. If it was to involve the face, it would involve the whole face.
Maxillary sinusitis, maybe venous pooling due to a vein thrombosis, minor capillary bleed etc are the other things that should be explored apart from the ones I mentioned earlier. It could also be a dental problem. Probably a CT scan of the face should be done including the maxillary sinus area.
Please discuss this with your doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

I am a 22yo mother of a 1yr and 3yr old. I have redness in my left cheek...also dryness in my left eye...the dryness mostly right after waking up... and twice i've had some redness/hotness on my left ear. also some stiffness/soreness in my left neck/shoulder. and what seems like a mild headache in my left jaw and cheek. my sinuses have been bothering me on and off recently sinse I got over a bad cold about a month ago(green nasal discharge) and I was wondering if this could be related. Ive tried to check my bp but it fluctuates because I get very nervous when I think something is wrong with me but it was 128/88 this morning. I am going to the dr on tuesday...should i go to the er or something? also, a couple of days I woke up with my left eye and left side of my nose stuffed up feeling after sleeping on my left side.  nothing too bad but i'm just worried about having a stroke or something.

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
In all probability all your symptoms are related to sinusitis. This can cause headache, earache, nasal discharge and stuffiness and flushed cheeks. Yes, you should consult a doctor. Since you have an appointment on Tuesday, take steam. Do warm saline gargles. Drink plenty of hot fluids like soups, herbal tea, warm lemonade etc. You can take OTC anti-inflammatory and decongestants—your pharmacist may be able to help you out. If symptoms are not relieved, you are anyways going to meet your doctor on Tuesday.
It is unlikely to be due to stroke. TMJ may be associated. However if the numbness is not relieved by steam and gargling and you start feeling worse, there is nothing much that can be advised on net. You should then go to the ER.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Hmm, I hadn't thought about the TMJ being associated with this.  But, one cheek instead of both?  I've had some more flushing incidents since my last post, but not with just one cheek.  And, it was more typical of flushing for me.  Haven't figured out what causes this flushing I get so frequently, though, and it often affects the face, neck and chest all at once.  Others have seen it happen to me, too, but no one knows what is causing it to happen.  The flushing happens, then a few minutes later, the flushing has stopped.  A few times I was in ER, because I have chronic migraines, and my BP was up at the time I had the flushing, but I've had the same flushing when my BP was at a normal level, too.  No one has ever figured out what causes all this flushing.

But, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the lip peeling.  I've been increasing my vitamin B intake lately.  I can't say as I've seen a dramatic improvement, yet, though, since I'm still getting the lip peeling quite a bit.  They can't take being without some kind of added moisture for even short amounts of time either, or they'll crack and bleed.
