Pain near Heart region

Hi Experts,
I am 26 years old male, I have a problem since almost 6-7 years.
It’s a pain, pinching/burning sensation in my left side of chest (heart region).
It starts suddenly, Sometime it lasts for few days, hours..worst goes on for a month..
The pain is mild, usually I don’t feel when I am busy at work, I feel it when I am free, night time.
When I press my rib near heart, it pains a lot..while my right of my chest ribs has no just problem.

Appreciate some thoughts on this….is this some thing to do with heart ?, my BP, ECG is normal..
I have no other symptoms/problems with this..

Thanks in advance.
Mahesh

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!

Pain and discomfort in your chest could be acidity or heart burn. The other reason could be due to esophageal reflux (GERD), where the food in your stomach is thrown up into your food pipe or esophagus. This also causes burning sensation or discomfort in the chest area. Another possibility is hiatal hernia, where a portion of stomach herniates into the chest cavity through the diaphragm. Cough or heart problems too cause discomfort in chest area (have been ruled out in your case).

Since there is pain on pressing, I think it could be costochondritis (inflammation of the joint between rib and sternum. All the enumerated possibilities cause pain on and off.

Over the counter antacids and omeprazole may give relief. I would strongly recommend you see a physician about this and get yourself investigated accordingly.
Excessive drinking, smoking, caffeine, fried food should be avoided.

Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
