Short breath and palpitation while taking a bath

Hi,

This isn't for me but for my boyfriend who's working abroad. Just a week ago after I went back to my country after visiting him, he has trouble breathing. He did have a cold a week ago, and took decolgen. The day after I left, it started when he was taking a shower in the bathroom and he told me that he couldn't breathe, as if he was choking. But afterwards, he felt a bit okay. Then just last Monday, he told me that he was experiencing palpitations. Although there was no pain. I told his friends to bring him to a clinic to have him checked. Although, the doctor told him that there was nothing wrong with him, he was completely fine -- normal heart rate, normal blood pressure. His heart is completely fine. They gave him atenolol for the palpitations. Just this Tuesday, he took the meds and he hasn't experienced anything although I'm a bit worried about that meds. I told him to have him checked in another clinic and this time, they checked his lungs, and he's in perfect shape. They gave him danzen and they also gave him something about his diaphragm (since he also said that he had problems burping).  He now hates taking a bath and the docs are saying it might just be all in the head and he has nothing to worry about. He took several tests (although not the blood one).

Just a recap: (his symptoms are: palpitations, short breaths (particularly when taking a bath although it also happens when he's outside), trouble burping, has coughs once in a while), a bit anxious, loss of appetite (although can eat)

He's about 23 years old, around 5'6"ft and weighs about 145 pounds.

So what would you suggest he's experiencing? And what tests should he take (he's already taken an x-ray, urine, and all other tests relating to the heart and the lungs and came back normal).

It would be great if I would get the answers ASAP.

If he has any symptoms of heartburn or reflux, he could be getting asthma symptoms from that.  He would need to consistently treat this to control the acid.  My boyfriend has luck taking Metamucil capsules at night as it forms a gel in the stomach and controls acid splash at night.

Did they check his thyroid levels?  Maybe he has hyperthyroidism.

Thanks, I will look into it.

Just yesterday, he told me was feeling much better and somehow minimized. So he's got this notion that it's probably all in the head. But today, he told me there's something heavy around his throat and it's difficult breathing at times when lying down.
