Periodic fevers with body aches

I a troubled by recurrent fevers of 100.5 and greater with body aches and weakness that come on  at least twice a month for 24 hours or so.  It hits suddenly, usually in the middle of the night and last for a little over a day before getting better.  When it comes on, I get severe chills, headache, stiff neck and shoulders and mass confusion. I am so tired of it.  I am currently suffering with it yet again.  What can I do?  I have talked to two doctors who dont seem to have any answers for me and dont worry about running tests. I a miserable. My husband just left for Iraq for six months and now do not have anyone to care for me.  Can someone help with some possible answers?

oh, and do start taking notes.  When you have the next episode, write down when it started and what symptoms you experienced.  If these continue, it will help you to have it written down because additional symptoms may come and some may disappear but it will help a doctor to diagnose you.  I also recommend getting copies of all your lab tests and reviewing them on your own.  It does happen that a nurse or doctor overlooks a test that is the answer.  It happened in my case.

Find a doctor who will run tests.  You should have Thryoid function tests done as that can cause what you have.  Some serious illnesses can cause those as well because if your immune system gets low you will get more infections which can explain why it is intermittent.  Your thyroid controls your body temperature and it functions with your adrenals, pituitary, parathyroid, so any of those systems may be off as they tend to affect one another.  If it continues I would not stop until you have a diagnosis.  Sometimes it takes the right doctor to run the right test before you find out what is wrong.  Only you really know if it's in your head.  Don't let a doctor write you off if you know something is not right.  Find a new doctor. You may have to go through a few doctors to find the right one but don't get discouraged.
