Thank you for your reply, that is nice to know that I have the correct information. And thank you for your other information and advice, best wishes Jackie
Hi
Yes, after a TIA the brain repairs itself. Also if you have only gait problem, then please look at local causes at the hip or lumbo-sacral spine too.
I would suggest you get the blood levels of the following checked if they have not already been checked: potassium, calcium, sodium, vitamin B complex, or vitamins B1, B3, or B6 and Vitamin D. Generally deficiencies of any of the above can cause muscle twitching and spasms in localized or generalized areas of the body. Get your kidney function, parathyroid gland function and adrenal function tests done because these affect the electrolyte balance in the body.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Thank you for your welcome. Well you see I did have a reaction to Erythroped about 8 years ago but did eventually overcome the weakness in my legs. But then 3 and a half years ago I had a funny turn where I felt like I was going to faint and my heart started to race. An ambulance was called but I didn't go into hospital, I didn't want to, so I was a bit silly really. With hindsight I think I might have had a stroke because I couldn't sign the ambulance form my husband had to as my right arm felt like I couldn't use it. I didn't know the symptoms of a stroke at the time. The next day my gait problem started. Also my bp was 150/80 when the paramedics arrived by my heart had calmed down by then, but normally I am 120 or less over 80. I was all clamy and they wanted me to go in. Anyway I had had a tympanoplasty a couple of years prior and as my weakness was very right sided, the side of the tympanoplasty I just thought I needed my ear cleaning out. I had an ent appointment coming up so I was waiting for that. But then they cancelled it at the last moment then I thought I better ring them up. They saw me and too.k me to the neurologists. So there was a bit of a gap between getting the mri. My Doctor has said that it might not show up if you have had a stroke as the brain repairs itself. I don't know how true that is. He thinks its possible I've had a stroke. But the MRI was clear. Anyway I do have circulation problems and have just found out I have raynaud's. So I have been put on aspirin. I didn't realise raynaud's could be so painful at times. The biggest problems I have when trying to walk are cramping, stiffness and my muscles contracting too much especially on the right side that is the side that drags and the leg will turn inwards and my feet will feel like they stick to the floor.. But my right arm seems ok. It would be lovely to understand what has happened. I feel that I will never know for sure. One neurologist said to me recently that we might never know and that we should draw a line under more tests. Thats all very well but it's me that can't walk properly and I don't even know why. I might be going in to hospital for some botox and physio at some point. Regards Jackie
Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Well, Quinoline can cause gait problem but should not cause lasting damage unless a very severe reaction. You should also look at lesions in brain or higher at the cervical cord causing these problems. Was a MRI done?
