Random Swelling in Joints

My son is 15 and periodically will have a problem with swollen joints.  The swelling is always in a different place, varying between his fingers, knees and feet.  There is tenderness in the area, but not severe pain.  The swelling usually only lasts 12-24 hours.  We have taken him to his doctor, but the swelling is always gone by the time we get to the office for an exam.  This seems to happen most frequently during the warmer months of the year but I'm not sure if this is just a coincidence.  Any idea what could be causing this?  Should we go back to visit the doctor?

Thank you!
