Random chest pains

I'm female and 16 in case that's important. For a while now I have been getting random pain in the left side of my chest. It feels like it is almost underneath the rib cage. These pains come randomly, as far as I can see there is no pattern. My friend keeps suggesting getting it checked but I didn't want to in case it was nothing and I was wasting doctor's time. However, today it happened again three times and the last one in particular was very sharp and lasted longer than usual. Usually it is about once every few days so this worried me. The severity of pain is usually quite sharp. But it only usually lasts a few seconds which makes me doubt it is a real problem. Please help, is it worth going to the doctors?

No. Don't smoke or drink or drugs etc. Can't think of anything else. Just normal food etc.
