Hi - I have been having some health issues that my doctor has not been able to address, I hope someone here can help!
I am in my 20s and have had some general symptoms such as bouts of intense fatigue, sensitivity to cold, mild weakness and weight changes that were attributed to hypothyroidism. I started Synthroid about two years ago and although it improved some things a bit, even though I am currently treated at an "optimal" amount of medication and blood tests show up fine, my doctor seems stumped about what is still happening.
Every few weeks I get episodes where I start shaking uncontrollably, so bad I can barely pick things up, and I get extremely weak. I can barely remember my own name and I tend to stare off into space. My teeth chatter noticeably, but the worst is probably the chest pain - which I think is caused by feeling cold and shivering so bad (wearing proper clothing in a 70-degree-Fahrenheit room). The chest pain, although it becomes more dull afterwards, lasts for hours after the episode is over. I have never looked in the mirror while this is happening, so I don't know if my face has the same effect, but my hands turn discolored and pale; as if they've lost all circulation. My mouth becomes dry. What's weird though is that through all of this, I can still talk pretty normally. I can barely move, or turn my head, but I can answer questions and carry on a slow conversation. These episodes last about 10-20 minutes, and I feel worn out afterwards.
Today I one of these episodes, and beforehand I felt fatigued and had severe mental fog before the shaking started. I used to think it was hypoglycemia, but I had eaten a healthy lunch just two hours before. And although I do get anxious during this, I don't feel like I'm panicking, I usually just try to act normally or sit down and let myself shake and stare off into space until it's over. I also felt like I needed to use the restroom, but was too weak to walk down the hall to it, so I just waited.
Maybe it is a "panic attack," but the intense fatigue and drop in body temperature don't make much sense - and I do not feel like I'm dying, at doom's door, or panicking - just very uncomfortable and confused.
On a side note - don't know if it's related, but I'll add it just in case - in the past year I have been seeing stars frequently when I bend down, change position, etc. and get vertigo after riding an elevator (this is relatively new). I also have a facial tic that I've had for a while, but hasn't improved and now I have other facial twitches and muscle twitches as well.
Sorry this post is so lengthy, I don't want to leave anything out just in case there is a connection!
Any ideas or advice?
Thank you so much, I greatly appreciate it :)
