My six yr old started to have some vomiting after some breathing problems( there was a fire in slymar, ca which santa ana winds brought our way in redondo area) he then started to not eat. We visited the doctor 2x in the same week because he began to spit up yellowYellow fever vaccine Yellow nail syndrome and greenGreen tea mucus and it smelled, he had not eaten since Monday and Kaiser was told all this information, they sent me and my husband home with an inhaler on the second visit, the following tuesday a chest x-ray was done and we were told he had pnuemonia (pneumonia) and they gave him antibotics the next day another x-ray was done and we were told he didn't have it anymore, they sent us home. That night my son started screaming in pain and vomiting brown mucus and no one in ER could help us. Today is Nov. 30th and today my son was sent home from being in the hospital since Nov. 25th, none of the doctors could explain his 32,000 WBCWbc count or why his blood and urineCalcium - urine Calcium urine test Chloride - urine Cortisol - urine Electrolytes - urine Glucose test - urine Hcg in urine Ketones - urine Kidney - blood and urine flow Lh urine test (home test) Ph urine test cultures can back negative for any bacteria, they did a CAT Scan which was normalNormal saline flush and showed no growth, they also called in a pathologists to rule out lukemia, we came home with no reason or explaination for 5 different doctors on what was wrong with out son. If anyone has heard or experience any thing like this please send input. We are geting a second opinion tomorrow.
Hi
Thanks for the post!
I am so sorry to hear about your 6 year old son. Well, these symptoms are usually due to ‘bronchiectasis’. “Bronchiectasis is a lung condition in which some of the bronchi and bronchioles have lost their elasticity and have expanded and filled with fluid.
It may be caused by recurrentRecurrent cystitis inflammation or infection of the airways and is primarily a disorder of childhood and young adulthood, with most cases being recognized during the first 2 decades of life.”
“Cystic fibrosis causes about half of all cases of bronchiectasis. Other causes include lung infection (tuberculosis, fungal infections, lung abscess, pneumonia), abnormal lung defense mechanisms (immunodeficiency, rheumatic disease), and localized airway obstruction (foreign body, tumor).”
“The most typical symptom is a chronic cough that produces thick, white or green sputum (discharge). The sputum may be foul-smelling and abundant and may contain blood. The individual generally coughs up large amounts of sputum after changing position (for example, after rising from bed). The patient may have recurrent pneumonia, weight loss, and anemia.
The doctor, listening to the chest with a stethoscope, can usually hear abnormal sounds inside the lungs as the patient breathes. Sputum smears and cultures may be ordered. A chest X-ray or high-resolution CT (computed tomography) scan may be done.
Chronic bronchitis must be ruled out as a cause, along with tuberculosis, certain fungal infections, a tumor, and the presence of an inhaled object that is lodged in bronchi.”
This needs a more detailed investigation and probably you should consult another doctor. Your son may need to undergo some tests too.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
