facial numbness, help?

hi
4 days ago i had a car accident, i hit into the back of another car, i did hit the breaks hard too, i was ok on the day, the next day i started feeling slight pain on my lower back but on the 3rd day i couldn't sit or stand, my main concern is, my cheeks and chin also lips feel alittle kind of numb sensation since yesterday a slight pins and needles feeling, is this due to the stiffness of the back and neck? swelling of the back? some kind of nerve injury? will it go away? i will be going back to dr maybe tomorrow if i get an appointment.

thanks in advance

note: i have had whiplash injury before few years ago, lower back pains and upper right back pains..

from the way you describe it it has to be a neurological issue. now because the face is linked directly to your brain whatever happens below the head shouldn't be related.

maybe an inflammation in the neck that spread to the trigiminal nerves I don't know if it's possible I can only guess. or just the shock sustained by the jaw?

it's not muscular and definitely not psychological.

thanks for the reply, no i didn't hurt my head in the accident, so if it was a neck  or back injury it wouldn't effect the face as it is above it? didn't know that, thought they would be connected to the face too? could it be muscle tens/spasm or even anxiety? i'll be seeing the dr in a few days

anything concerning the neck and below the neck wouldn't give symptoms above it. maybe it's something to do with the jaw, a inflammation of the trigiminal nerves?

did you hit your head in the accident? if the problem persists you could see a Neurologist and have a brain scan for best safety.
