Strange Liquid Sounds in Neck

On different occasions I hear a strange sound in my neck. It seems to be coming from the base of my skull, and it sounds like liquid being forced thru a narrow straw or tube. Maybe a like when you pinch off a garden hose and the water is being forced thru under pressure. I thought I was nuts, but then one day while reading in bed it occured and my wife who was sitting next to me heard it as well. This has been going on for several years now, and I have seen the occasional mention of it on the web, but no defeinative explanation. Some web site mentioned somthing called Chiari, but I am just curious to knwo what it could be.

I have been searching for so long on the internet for information on this subject. I have the exact same sound at the back of my neck, I thought I was imagining it until my partner heard it. Ive noticed it only happens when I am very hungry and have hunger pains in my stomach. I have not been able to find any other information on this subject

Thank GOD I found your post. I have the exact symptoms as you. I have searched all over the web and this is the only site where I saw people with the same problem as I have but the posts were from years ago and nobody had come back to say what the doctors have diagnosed this as. Everyone, including the neurologist I saw, knows what I'm talking about when I describe my strange symptoms to them. I usually describe it as water trying to pass thru a slim tube, or an empty dishwashing liquid bottle thats now empty, but I hear the same thing as you coming from the back of my neck. Others can hear it too if they are standing next to me when it happens (which isn't often). I usually hear it when my stomach is experiencing a cramp or hunger pain(stomach growling). The neck doesn't hurt when I hear it, but sometimes my neck gets swolen and I'll have pain on the right side of my neck, which seems to have a sore spot on top of a vein at that location. I will on occasion get a migrane if the neck pain lasts all day. Please, if you or anyone gets a diagnosis, post your results here. My neurologist did a ct scan on my neck and I had an mri which just showed a slight bulging of a disk , not severe enough to warrant surgery. I, like you, saw that charro post and it doesn't seem to fit. Thanks so much.

Are you having any other symptoms? Check these links out. The first one talks about Chiari Malformation. The second talks about the "swooshing" feeling in your head, and the third is about hydromelia, which is discussed in the second link. It talks about how others can hear the sounds.

Hope this is not confusing. Trying to help. It sounds like you need to see an ENT. Good luck!
