Strange Skin Sensation - Burning But Not Painful

I'm experiencing a strange sensation on my skin.  The best way I can describe it is that it feels like I have Vicks Vapor Rub on the skin, only I don't - that strange cold/warm feeling, like a burn (sort of) but not painful.  I felt it in my chest first and it felt similar to sipping liquor, like warm burning sensation but defintely not an acid reflux sensation.  It feels like it's in the skin, not under it, if that makes sense.  Now I notice it on my upper arms, boths sides.  It's not painful at all, but noticeable.  What could be causing this?

I have that Vick's Vaporub feeling too!  That's crazy, I thought I was the only one to describe it that way.....still don't know what's causing it....

Thanks for the info.  Funny thing is when I look up hyperthyroid symptoms I actually have a bunch - end-of-day fatigue but difficulty sleeping, light period, trembling hands, heart palpitations/irregular heartbeat.  But it seems I was tested for hypOthyroid a couple of years ago and it was normal.  PMay warrant a trip to the GP for a routine check up.

Missmotility7, nice to know I'm not crazy!  Thanks! :-)

yes i know exactly what you mean. its hot and cold its not painful but slightly irritating.like the day after a stinging by nettles.or a sports injury rub.i heard this is poor lymph drainage.strangely when you touch the skin its not there anymore remove your touching of the skin and its back again most annoying.i get it regular on my side and thigh it goes away dont worry i think it is a circulation thing.thankfully someone knows  what im talking about.thought i was a freak.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Generalized feeling of a burning sensation can be due to dry skin, hyperthyroid states, liver or gall bladder dysfunction, peripheral neuropathies as in diabetes or decreased sweating as in Sjogren’s syndrome. This would need a comprehensive investigation. Take care!
