Swollen Neck Lymph Nodes (1)

Hello, im 23 years old, male, in generally good health, but for about the last 2 weeks or so I have noticed one large swollen lymph node on the right side of my neck underneath my jaw, around the submandibular gland.  I don't think it was there before then but it was pretty large when I finally noticed it and this gave me concern.  I waited about a week after discovering it, then went to an ENT yesterday who felt it and thought it may have been from an infection that went straight to my lymph nodes and got "stuck" there.  My first question is, is this common for a lymph node to swell pretty large due to an infection and how long would this take to clear up normally? But also I am worried about lymphoma..I have not had any other "typical" symptoms of lymphoma, i.e  nightsweats, fever, weight loss, and only this one lymph node is swollen?  Could this still be lymphoma even without any other symptoms?  Would lymphoma show up in a blood or urine test? I have had both in the past month and there were no signs of any abnormalities.  Any information would be greatly appreciated..Thanks

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Neck lymph nodes can be the result of tonsillitis, pharyngitis (infection of upper throat), infection in mouth, caries in tooth, internal ear infection, outer ear infection, eczema, dermatitis, dandruff, breast cancer, fungal infection, other cancers like lymphoma etc. Since you do not have any other symptoms, and since you do not have a lump in your breast (in males it almost always is taken as cancer), chances of cancer are less. Hence other possibilities should be considered. A lymph node can remain swollen for months after the initial infection subsides.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
