Dang! I already answered, but it got deleted. Here goes. In March I had my Gallbladder removed. Gallbladder is located on the right side, in between your ribs and hip bone. You feel the pain up under your ribs, and it can be felt in your chest, too. If you get stabbing that goes from your chest to your back, it's getting pretty bad. Go to your Dr. and see if this may be the problem. Also, I have been suffering with extremely painful GERD for many years, and used to have to take a large bottle of Rolaids every week. My Dr. prescribed Dexilant, and I suffer no more, unless I am very late in taking my pill once a day. There is no cure for it, that I am aware of. Only a suppressant, and if you don't take meds, you can get esophogeal cancer from the erosion.

I definitely agree with troubleinohio.  Could be loads of things and it could be simple anxiety, but you need to get it checked out with your own doctor.

did they do any extensive testing at the ER? the ER is intended for urgent evaluation, not to replace full time care and follow up. I would make an appt. with your family doctor who will investigate it more thoroughly. My guess is that the ER made sure you werent having a heart attack or having an urgent attack w/ your gallbladder etc.  Your family dr. can help investigate more occult (hidden) issues that arent as obvious once they ruled out the major things. Did you get any blood work done? EKG? X/rays? at the ER?  I wouldnt even begin to guess what could be causing your pain, it could be so many possibilities, and Im not a doctor (there are none here, btw). So I think you should make an appt with your reg doctor (and of course return to the ER sooner, if your symptoms become worse or unbearable, especially the breathing part) Good luck and keep us posted!
