Swollen ankle

I have had several sprained ankles in my day, but none of them have acted quite like this one. I injured it playing soccer about two and a half days ago, but I was able to continue playing, although it was pretty painful and weak for the rest of the training session. Now, after two+ days of rest, ibuprofen every 3-4 hours, and a bucket of ice water about 6-7 times a day, it's still very swollen, and pretty black and blue. Most of the swelling is on the inside part, just below the ankle bone, but it is also swollen a bit on top and up my foot towards my toes slightly.

I'm going to urgent care tomorrow, and I'm sure they will be able to tell me exactly what is wrong with x-rays, but I was hoping to get a diagnosis quicker. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!

Yes, definitely X-rays are required to know if there are any fractures. I feel that overuse of the strained ankle has aggravated the problem causing further damage to tendons and ligaments and probably formation of a hematoma.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.  Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
