Undiagnosed Problem

I am writing for my sister-in-law who is a 37 year old woman, 5', and
was healthy up until few months before this started,
About five months ago now she began to be
unable to eat.  She had extreme nausea and if she tried to
force herself to eat she would vomit.  This has continued to
the point that she has had to go to the hospital to have
some of fluids replaced because for one period of time
she couldn't even drink.  It is three months now that she can't eat,
and the doctors that she has gone to do not really know what is wrong.
they assumed few thing and ran the following tests on her,
They have run all of the typical tests, like X rays , CT etc etc.  including colonoscopy
They suspect a virus  or some kind of ulcer but have found none.
They have given her a drug to empty her stomache so she can eat another
time (sometimes she can eat very small amounts of food for a couple of days
and then her stomache is bad again), Once before some doctors told she has to live rest of her life like this, and some doctors told its they don'n know the problem after putting her through all kinds of painful tests and diagnosis.
This is where she is.  Do you have any ideas?  Any thoughts would
  be very appreciated.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Commonest cause of chronic nausea is acidity. Let her take omeprazole (empty stomach in morning) and antacid gel and see if it helps. Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Hence kidney and liver function tests should be done. Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea. IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause. A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc. Also if nothing is found then food challenge test to detect food intolerance should be done. Hope this helps. Take care!

has she been checked for kidney problems? that will cause these symptoms. the dr shouldve checked this already. if he didnt, find a new dr. keep having tests and have drs look for things until they find a cause. if its been for months, its doubtful to be a virus. ulcers is questionable because you can get ulcers on any organ in the body, especially if youre genetically prone to things like lupus or any of its adjoining diseases. a lot of syndromes, deficiencies and diseases can be determined by certain antibody/ dna tests, if she hasnt had any done, it might be time for some. until they find something, your best bet is to buy her some marijuana. it may be illegal where you are, you may have to do something you wouldnt normally consider, but it is your best bet to get her to be able to eat and keep it down. that is probably the most common reason why they give it to cancer patients and people with renal failure. they cant eat, they get too sick from treatment. the marijuana eases the symptoms so they can eat and keep it down.
