foot and toe pain

im 51 and just started to have foot and toe pain, i seem to have some kinda of reddish blueish rash on my feet, which is more just on the sides up to my little toes  on both feet, its not raised,but does seem to itch just a little, but the pain can be over bearing most of the time, it has effected my 5th toe on my left foot., my big toes are somewhat red to, ive been to my dr. and he doesnt seem to know what could be causeing the problem, ive had blood tests done for sugar and it came back ok, he found that my iron was low so i am now on iron pills,

To add:  You can ask your physician to order a doppler US of the foot.  This would check for vascular issues.

Sounds like a vascular issue.  

I doubt a low iron level would be the SOLE cause of this.  I am more apt to believe the low iron and this situation with your foot are symptoms of something else going on.    

If this persists, I would recommend consulting a Vascular Specialist.
