My seventeen year old son has had chest pain, passed out, hard time breathing. Has had heart monitor everything fine. Seen cardiologist, has had echo everything fine. Thought it was from medicine he was on  has been off for three weeks then all the sudden it happened again. Ran ekg again normal, blood test normal. He hurts on left side up sternum when touched. The doctors say it's a mystery. He has to go back to cardiologist. Anybody experienced this or have suggestions. please help

The cardiologist want's to wait until he has another episode. We think this is crazy! What if this is a blood clot. What would you do? Help

The combination of the chest pain and syncope (passing out) is a serious set of symptoms. Without seeing your son or the primary data, I cannot offer much advice except that your doctors should systematic rule out congenital heart disease and/or arrhythmias. The echo would do a good job at ruling out structural heart disease such as valvular problems or problems with the muscles. It would not rule out abnormal coronary arteries. The EKG does not necessarily rule out all arrhythmias and more long term monitoring system should be employed, like a holder or loop recorder. Once the heart is completely ruled out as a cause of his symptoms, then I would move on to considering neurologic causes. Thanks,
