My boyfriend is 23 years old. Last Saturday he started to have a severe headache later in the night before he goes to bed. After that he begin to sweat like crazy throughout the night. The next day he is totally exhausted with a big headache. After taking the temperature, he had a fever. I told him to take tylenol and get rest.
The fever kept coming back and forth. And his headache his not getting better.

Overall, his symptoms are:
severe headache

dizziness
sweat
chill
And all of them lasted for 5 days now.

The medication he is taking right now is tylenol and antidepressant (prescribed by doctor)
And he has sleep apnea problem.

Please someone help!

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Antibiotics and fever medication are the mainstay of treatment. Recovery occurs in 2-4 weeks. Periodic checkup with the doctor is a must to view the progress. Keep a look out for signs like irritation- patient is confused or incredibly irritable, talking continuously etc, loss of speech or vision, weakness of limbs-arms or legs etc. You should give him a balanced diet, soups, fruits and vegetables, cereals, chicken etc to build up his strength. Wishing him a speedy recovery! Take care!

Thank you guys! :]
He went to the doctor yesterday and the doctor said it could be either bacterial or viral meningitis. He is being prescribed with antibiotics Cefdinir to see whether the infection was bacterial. If the condition persist or worsen, he has to go to the ER. But so far he is doing ok. No fever for the last 12 hours, the location of the headache shifted and the intensity has been lowered. He still sweats a lot though. I am right now taking care of him, what are some suggestion for caring a meningitis patient?

it could be the flu, but flu commonly comes with a sick stomach and the headache is usually a sinus headache. your best bet is to track his temp. if he maintains the 103 fever, take him to the er immediately! the west coast is beginning to have cases of mono pop up, these symptoms would fit that diagnosis as well. if its been 5 days and these symptoms are consistent, take him to the er. he could have an infection or virus and can be contagious. feed him light meals high in needed protein. do not feed him fast food, meats, processed foods like cereal, tv dinners, etc. simple to digest food with nutrients are best. bread, eggs, crackers, soups, the best thing is probably vegetable soup. also, if he is very hot, do NOT stick him in a cold bath. never stick someone with a fever in a cold bath, this is not good for the body and can send it into shock. lukewarm, slightly warm, but never cold.
