is an endoscopy the same as a barium swallow !

Does anyone know if an endoscopy is the same asa barium swallow? Ent consultant wants me to have abarium swallow hes looking for dismotility! I have already had an endoscopy which was ok . Do I really need abarium swallow wouldnt it have shown up dismotility > Help appreciated

HI, An Endoscopy is performed with the patient in a mild sedative state with a scope that is placed gently down your throat (you don't know it is happening and have no pain).  The Dr. usually a Gastroenterologist can examine and take pictures and biopsies is necessary.

Not the same.  Barium swallow you just swallow chalky stuff, no tube down throat.  Still, not best test for motility.  Need a manometry for that.
