my friend has a bleeding ulcer i need help.

My friend had called me with all of the symptons of a bleeding ulcer and I told him to have some one take him to the emergency room , and they confirmed that it was in fact a bleeding ulcer... My question is if he is sent home the next day , then a few days later he is fainting /blacking out, feeling dizzy and feeling like he has a knot in his stomach , should he go back to the emergency room right then ?
Or should he go see a doctor?

Hi
Thanks for keeping me posted!
Some life style changes need to be followed by your friend. Like: Avoid heavy meals and eat frequent small meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, smoking, fried and spicy food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed by pillows to 30 degrees. Go to bed at least 2 hours after food. Maybe these tips will help your friend.  Take care!

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Yes, your friend should consult a doctor ASAP or go to ER. A bleeding ulcer can often perforate. If the leak is minor, this can be sealed by a soft protective tissue of the abdomen called mesentery. This can be felt as a knot and as spasm of the abdominal muscles. The other possibility is that the bleed increased—this would cause very dark stools, and this caused spasm of the abdominal muscles.
Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Yes, he should have gone back. He needs to see a gastroenterologist ASAP.  The ulcer needs to be treated so it can heal.  He is faint and dizzy due to blood loss, which needs to be stopped. A bleeding ulcer is just that...bleeding, and the blood loss can be excessive.  His stools are probabaly very dark or black as a result of the bleeding.
