night time stomach pain/discomfort

about 8 months ago i started getting this weird pain/cramp/stomach discomfort that would only happen at night time. after being asleep for a little while it becomes this uncomfortable ache in the upper part of my stomach just below my sternum. it is not really constant but more so when i breath in. it can best be described as somewhat like the pain you get in your side that stabs you out of no where if you breath too deep. this has a little less stab to it. it does intensify the deeper i breath in. it just started happening one night and never went away. once i am out of bed and moving around for a few minutes it goes away but rest assured it will be back the next time i got to sleep. no one can ever really explain it to me or give me an answer to what it could be. anyone have any suggestions?

You may have what they call reflux or GERD. Try an otc medication like prilosec/prevacid etc. see if this helps if not please consult your primary care doctor. Hope this helps

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
One possibility is gastric reflux. When you lie down acid and food is thrown up causing stabbing pain. It can also be due to hiatal hernia. Raise head end of bed. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks, caffeine, and spicy food. See if this helps. If it helps, then consult a gastroenterologist. If it does not help, then the pain can be due to wrong sleeping posture or due to sleep apnea. Get this investigated. Hope this helps. Take care!
