sharp pain left breast

I have a major pain in left breast and surrounding area-my doctor said I might have pulled a muscle from coughing (bad smokers cough plus had bronchitis) this pain really hurts-I can not get up from bed without holding my chest and trying to stop the pain

should I wait and see if it heals itself?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Such a severe pain can be due to costochondritis (inflammation of the joint between rib and sternum), fibroadenosis, pleuritis (inflammation of lining of lung) or pericarditis (inflammation of lining of heart). You can apply a heat pack and local analgesic cream and see. If it is a muscular pain or due to costochondritis, it will heal. Else consult a doctor immediately.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Hello kathyran,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. Please excuse my tardy response.

Have you had an x-ray? If not I would request one. You could have pleurisy or something similar going on. Call your physician and explain the severity of your pain. I think you may need a good clinical work up.

You might want to post on another forum also. We deal mostly with chronic pain. You are always welcome here. But let me see if I can locate a forum that may be able top provide you with better responses.

Best of luck to you. Please let us know how you are doing.

Take Care,
~Tuck~
