The title says "toe numbness" and if this is what your symptoms are, you should make an appointment to see your doctor. Numbness in the toes could be referred from problems in the lower spine as well as from nerve damage due to diabetes.
If it is specific and not numbness, this could be referred pain from the lower spine, or arthritis in the toe joints.
I presume that you are wearing well fitting shoes! Ill fitting and tight shoes can cause pain too.
It would be wise to see your doctor to find the cause to be able to know how to deal with the painful and/or numb toes.
What toe is numb? Most likely your son was hitting your sciatic nerve which caused the numbness. Do you have numbness and tingling? Can you stand on your toes and heels? Is your toe completely numb? Can you poke it with a pin and feel it? Sensory nerve damage may come back. You just need to give it a little time.
