CAN IC BE OVERLOOKED???

by seriously puzzled, Sep 30, 2007 09:17PM
Hi. I'm a 33 yr. old female who's about to undergo her 4th exploratory surgery for IC/possible bladder conditions. I have all the classic symptoms of IC, but my last 3 surgeries did not reveal the condition.  Does anyone know if it's possible for a doctor not to catch it (3 doctors in my case)? Or, does anyone know what in the world this could be? Besides doing another exploratory surgery, is there any other tests they can perform on the bladder to determine what the problem is??? I've had this problem since I was small, and now it's gotten to the point that I'm afraid to go to the bathroom, and even simple "existing" hurts!

Please get an evaluation by a qualified pelvic floor physical therapist. Also please get evaluated by a urogynecologist, with interests in Bladder pain/IC, and pelvic floor dysfunction.  You may find that your symptoms may be greatly relieved or even cured by a qualified pelvic floor pt.

How about being evaluated by a physical therapist that deals with pelvic pain?  I really think this could help you.

Thanks for your comment. Have you seen a physical therapist (for for pelvic pain), or know of someone that has? If yes, has there been any type of treatment to get rid of this pain (that's been successful), and what was it? Thanks again.

I don't have the same symptoms as you, but yes I'm currently seeing a pt 1x week for pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and it's helping.

Check out yahoo groups.  I believe there is one for IC. The Happy Pelvis group focuses on pelvic pain and pt.   The women are very friendly and it's also a great resource for finding docs/pt's that might help you in your area.
