Thank you. My doctor actually called me today with the results from my ultrasound. The first one said it was a simple ovarian cyst but my second ultrasound results say that it is a embryologic paratubal cyst. My doctor didn't have a lot of time to spare all he told me was that as embryos we all start out with both male and female organs and that I have some leftover male parts. The cyst is getting smaller but he gave me the name of a surgeon to call. I would like more information but I'm having trouble finding it.
A cyst of this size (11 centimeters is about 4.5 inches) should warrant a thorough investigation, including surgical evaluation, because of the risk of ovarian torsion, which can sometimes be life threatening. There is no definitive blood test for ovarian cancer, so you should not be reassured by the CA-125 (which is probably the test you are talking about for ovarian cancer). The cyst could be ovarian in origin, or it could be associated with the fallopian tube, which are the 2 most likely possibliities. Either way, someone needs to get a good look at it soon
