urine cytology

Hi, I am a 45 y/o female who has a cancer syndrome called Lynch syndrome. I have had uterine cancer and colon cancer in the last 5 years.  I get screened regularly for urologic cancers with a urine cytology. THis last cytology report states there is low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion.  I have had a hysterectomy and from what I understand this is usually related to the cervix.  Could this finding have anything to do with my uterine cancer returning? Can't find any info and my gynonc is away for the next week. I am freaking out!!

If I understood your post the abnormal cells were found on urine cytology and not on pap smear.  If this is correct I would question the decision not to do a cystoscopy.

Thank you for your answer. My urologist has referred me to my gyn/oc and is not doing a cysto? What do you think about this?

While transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) is the most common bladder cancer in the US, squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common.  The finding on cytology suggest a pre cancerous lesion.  You should see your doctor, urologist, for a cystoscopy.  Thank you for your question.  Dr. Mathews
