urine test

I was just wondering what can cause red and white blood cells to show up in a urine test. We ruled out a UTI and the antibiotics didn't work either. They didn't look into it any further, and I didn't know if there was something that they should be looking for.

Persistent blood cells in the urine needs a followup. if this is a "clean catch, you can have white cells in the urine, which are caught when the urine pass by the labia. If this is a catheterized specimen, red cells may be from the trauma of passing the catheter.

You may consider repeating the specimen with a mid-stream clean catch, as well as a cathetherized specimen.

If the red cells persist, and the urine culture is negative, obtain an evaluation from a urologist or urogynecologist.
