Dead Testicle Atrophy

I had a recent hernia repair with a biological mesh to replace a synthetic mesh that had become infected.  Due to complications, I think a harsh reaction of my body to the biological mesh (although the doctors won't admit it), my left testicle has lost blood supply and died.  It is extremely swollen to about the size of a baseball and it is very painful.  A urologist and the surgeon both recommended to leave the testicle alone and not do another surgery and introduce more trauma.  My question is: How long will it take for the testicle to decrease in size to a point where it doesn't cause me unbearable pain?  I am okay lying down but sitting, standing, or walking causes tremendous pain that increases the longer I am no lying down.  The urologist said it could take up to 2 months but I am skepticle and think it could take much longer.

Thanks for the reply Ron.  4 months is a long time and I hope it doesn't take that long to feel better.  However, if the alternative is another traumatic surgery than I'll deal with the pain.  I hope you are doing better.

Hi, I had experienced swelling of my left testicle after the removal of a hematoma. It took about 4 months before things felt OK. A year later I developed a Staph infection of the same testicle and ended up having it removed. It was decided to leave the scrotum open an to have it heal from the inside out as they were concerned about further infection.

Having been told to leave things as they are does not sound unreasonable. I know how painful it can be. My testicle swelled up to the size of a grapefruit, causing the scrotum to open up.

I sincerely hope that you will have a speedy recovery.

All the best.

Ron
